Yoga after c section

I'm seven weeks postpartum and want to start yoga in the new year. Has anyone been back to yoga at this point after caesarean? I didn't do it during pregnancy but have done for a number of years before .

No. Don't do it. Let your body recover - 3 months is the absolute minimum. You have an entire life in which to do yoga, another 5 weeks off won't hurt. Even then, if you're not healed from the major surgery, take longer. Judge whether you're really ready.

I am a yoga teacher and if you turn up in my class in the new year, I will send you home ;-). Honestly, don't do yourself damage by rushing.

Thanks for letting me know! I had no idea. I really want to do some exercise as I can't always take the baby out in the pram with the unpredictable winter weather. Can't think what else I can do then !

I agree!! I'm 16 weeks on from my c section and if I do too much it really hurts still. I was really active before my baby arrived so I know it's hard to not do anything.

You'll soon be back doing all the things you want to do, just enjoy a bit of a rest first and you'll be great Smile

I started pilates 8 weeks after c section. It was a post natal class so the teacher is specifically trained in what sort of exercises are safe post partum including for c section. It was gentle to start off with and it was absolutely fine. For any core work, your teacher should check for diastasis recti (tummy muscle separation) to check they have gone back together. Check your local classes as most teachers will specify number of weeks post c section when they will take you, then just listen to your body.

Thanks I had no idea. I don't know of any post natal classes locally but will research. It's frustrating as I miss yoga and feel really need it

My yoga teacher says 6 weeks PP for vaginal births and 8 weeks PP for c-section. I'd find some local yoga teachers and ask their opinion.
