And I am back at work in an office tomorrow

Blimey! Do you think you'll be able to do a convincing impersonation of someone who works in an office?

Just think, you can wee in peace (unless your colleagues are a bit weird...)

OMG really? what is job? good luck. for some reason I thought you were a SAHM rather than on mat leave.

9 months in, 9 months out.
isn't is supposed to be 9 months putting weight on, 9 taking it off too? I haven't lost a single pound since about March 15th. (and I need to). I am such a greedy cow though. and a boozehound. so I guess I shouldn't be surprised really

Report
swampster · 01/11/2009 21:23

I was half a SAHM before. Now I am rather more - going back for one day initially. But even that feels like too much right now.

Report
Cocodrillo · 01/11/2009 21:42

For one day a week for a few weeks then probably more? Who is looking after DS3?

I know what you mean . There are benefits to going to work though (apart from a wage!). Time in your own head on the tube/bus whatever, a chance to engage your brain, a lunch break, a cup of tea in peace, a trip to the loo in peace as THOM says! Oh, and thinking I'll do a then b then c, then doing a, b and c, without constant interruptions to make drinks/break up fights/kiss injured limbs better etc etc.

Actually I'm getting almost jealous.

coco They say it takes 2 years for your body to fully recover from pregnancy and child birth.

WHAT?! WORK?! Swampy! Hope it goes well.... Is this funds for a new house? Have you left the children in a cupboard?

Hola all from Tenerife! Nice one with the new thread THHOM Is lovely over here - 27 degrees and sunny - and DS1 is utterly thrilled with the pools and kids club. Which is good as the 3.30am start yesterday and the hour of Danny screaming on the plane in total meltdown was not fun and I was really wondering if the holiday would be worth it... Both boys are now sleeping and DH has kindly let me have a play with his new toy..

Swampster - hope your first day back goes ok. You're based over near Farringdon arent you? Maybe we could try and catch up for a coffee/lunch one week when you're in at work.

THHOM - the party sounds fantastic. And wow at Mr T - sounds like he's been formulating a plan to walk as soon as he starts crawling and now he's on the move there is absolutely no stopping him...

MOS - sorry to hear you've all been unwell and that DD1 has been pressing your buttons. Remember -its just a phase which will eventually pass (when she's around 18 or so...)

Right, off to go have a read in the sun while its still all peaceful. Hope you all have a good week.

i'm just going to jump into the new thread and rudely fire questions at you:

fontanelle - when does this usually close up?
8 month hv check - does anyone still have it in their area?
anyone else still have a completely toothless baby?

thanks!

I'm having my house valued today.

I'm nervous.

I have cleaned a lot.

Report
littleboyblue · 03/11/2009 09:56

katie IIRC the fontanelle doesn't close until about 2 years old.
I haven't heard anything about the 8m development check, but I think in my area they leave it until 12 months, but ds1 didn't get his 2 year one. Thanksfor reminding me I need to check on that.
Luke is just getting his first tooth now. He will be 9 months tomorrow. Ds1 got his first tooth at 10 months.

MS Good luck with the valuation today. Sure it'll be fine.

Luke likes to stand up holding onto the table, but he can't stand or cruise like some are doing. I have to prop him against the table.

Ds1 has a check up at the dentist today.

Our HVs are a bit crap, with 3 kids I've only ever had an appointment through for DD1's 8 month check, anything else I've always had to chase.

I think here as long as they're reasonably certain from the initial visit that you're not beating your kids up they just leave you to it.

BloodRedTulips · 03/11/2009 10:24

katie...

18 months to 2 years i think
we get one at 9 months theoretically but the HV warned me they may be running late due to SF
A has teeth but dd didn't get any til a week before her birthday.... and then got 8 in 2 days

enjoy the holiday dinky, sounds fabulous

one more...does anyone have children or know of anyone else that have done Stagecoach (music, drama, singing)?

KBN Tarran's got his 8 month check tomorrow. Only, I think because I bumped into HV and she asked how old he was! No idea about fontanelles and we have 7 teeth here.

I looked into Stagecoach but it all sounded a bit pushy (think Perform & JIgsaw similar). Luckily our local arts centre runs one which sounds much more low key and once DS1 is used to full days at school I think he'll really enjoy it though lord knows he doesn't need lessons in being dramatic!

MS I hope your valuation went well!

OMG Poor Milo. That sounds awful.
Have left a message on there for Rosie.

Report
TheHouseofMirth · 03/11/2009 14:52

That's terrible. Poor little boy! I did notice on trolleys in Sainsbury that they say that kind are not suitable for children under 12 months but Tarran's been sitting up since he was 5 months and there's no way he'd go in one of the lie-down kinds.

Poor Milo...in typical MN fashion, poor Rosie was given a bit of a hard time on her thread...

Have one more Xmas pressie left to get on Friday and I'm done

Can't remember the last time we saw an HV. I've recently changed GP and was told they'd be in touch, and typically, have heard nothing!

Hello all,

Just to let you all know that Milo is doing great bless him, has alot of swelling on the entire left hand side of his head but he is back to his normal self and scooting around in his walker happily.

Also wanted to thank Pinktulips, Littlemissnorty, MarkStretch and LBB for their kind words on my thread. Obviously i didnt post it to get a bollocking because i honestly do feel absolutely bloody awful about Milo's accident, i just wanted to tell everyone to basically use a strap at all times - everyone now knows that Morrisons in some cases dont provide them unless you ask and all i was saying is that its kind of difficult to ask when you dont have the information easily available.

I went back this morning and the sign is right where you would put your hands to push the trolley and i also took a photo of it because i really do believe it should be bigger, its approx an inch and half across and the text is about this size - its too small considering right next to it is a huge BEWARE in yellow pertaining to having your bag stolen. I took some photos which i will put on my profile this afternoon of the handle of the trolley and the words really are minute

I do blame myself obviously as i just should have gone to my usual supermarket where Milo is always strapped in without fail, i just assumed there would be some at Morrsions because when you use equipment intended for small children or babies, for instance buggies or highchairs they come with straps - i am feeling pretty shitty about it all as of course i feel responsible and yes he is fine but i cant help thinking that he might not have been and it was partially (some people think totally) my fault.

Accidents happen, my DD2 was run over when she was three and it was a definate accident but if i hadnt have shopped at sodding Morrisons or i had seen their miniscule sign on the trolley handle about the straps being available at customer services then Milo would never have fallen

PT thanks for the virtual Gin and Choccies feel really depressed and weepy atm about all of this, am obviously over the moon my little angel is ok but you do worry still dont you?

Anyway enough about all that, sorry i havent posted in a while - we are moving next month and its all go here as marketing our house as well which is a massive pain in the arse for a slattern like me - got to keep it really really really tidy for viewings - had to put poor Milo's jumperoo away fgs but no room to swing a cat in our living room otherwise.

MS how did you valuations go? Are you going to be moving anytime soon as well? Massive stress isn't it?

Katie, Milo has 8 teeth and started to get them when he was around 6 months - he's biting now too As BRT said fontanelle closes around 1 and a half to 2 years old i think. 8 month development check happens in this area but i missed it as was away at the time however i know he is fine and doing what he should be at this age (and more besides probably).

Dinky have a great holiday the suns shining here too but its probably a degree or two colder eh?

SweetTalkinWoman · 04/11/2009 12:41

HI Rosie - only just seen this and so glad Milo is going to be ok. I'm not surpised you are feeling a bit fragile about it - what a terrible shock. I really feel for you - and I think as someone else said, being a mother is one long guilt trip!!! I recently saw that footage of the mother in Australia who let go of her buggy for a few seconds and it rolled off the platform onto the train tracks then was hit by a train, and all I could think was I bet she blames herself, but nobody would do anything like that intentionally.

Hope your house marketing is successful and what a PITA having to tidy toys away. I feel like that every Thursday night because the cleaner comes on Friday so I have to get the house in some sort of order so they can get to the kitchen counters and carpets!!!

MS how did your valuation go?

Nothing too interesting here. We are having probs with DD who is tantrumming almost constantly at the moment, and is still being very violent towards Sam . The Health Visitor is coming for a home visit on Monday because we're finding it hard to deal with.

Tonight I'm off to St Thomas's hospital for an Action Against Allergy Workshop on "Food Allergy & Eczema" - it's three hours long (hope I can stay awake) but I think it will be really useful. I'll pass on any snippets of information if of interest.

Dinky I hope you are having fun in the sun! Danny's plane journey doesn't sound like much fun! Was it his ears do you think? Glad to hear that DS1 is enjoying himself.

Can I just ask those of you who had "sicky" babies - are they still "possetting" left, right and centre? I was hoping it would start easing off now, but Sam's still chundering and requiring plenty of clothes changes. Our carpet is looking a bit worse for wear now!

Must be off now as the staff restaurant beckons.... Bon appetit!
