what if you feel guilty for wanting Chocolate?

I WANT CHOCOLATE!

Does that mean I get more?

Report
Swaliswan · 28/08/2009 14:30

I've had all of my chocolate. There is none left in the flat apart from DD's white chocolate buttons. I would feel guilty if I ate them!

Bicnod · 28/08/2009 14:34

I am eating chocolate hobnobs. Lots of them.

HV told me off and said baby rice would just give O stomach ache. Nice.

O had his 3 injections and screamed and cried a lot which made me cry.

I got absolutely pissed on with rain when I was walking to the baby clinic.

Thank you so much for those of you who have posted on my weaning thread... general consensus from non-April mums seems to be that it is universally wrong to wean before 6 months... thank god for this thread!!!

How does one become a HV?
I found out mine has no children...it makes me a bit suspicious about her suggestion of leaving Meg to cry in her cot with the door 'when there's nothing wrong...even if it takes an hour for her to calm herself down' because other wise I'm 'being had.' Is there a course they take? Schooling they go to? Or what?

Off to get DH from airport, back later (after battling traffic jams...)

bebe - that your HV said that to you!!! as if a little baby could 'have' their mummy in that way...

my HV has got kids and i was tempted to ask her when she weaned them...

although, as you say on my weaning thread, its more about supplementing than weaning - Oscar isn't reducing the number of feeds, but he DOES seem more settled and he is sleeping longer at night (so far - its only been 3 nights so too soon to tell if its going to last...)

Report
Swaliswan · 28/08/2009 14:53

I had to laugh when I heard that my HV has just had her first baby. All of a sudden I think that much of her advice is going to seeming woefully inadequate when it is her own baby screaming. Having said that, she was a really good HV, much better than the one who has replaced her.

Report
Bicnod · 28/08/2009 14:56

haha - yes, i'm sure its very easy to dole out government guidelines when you don't have your own screamy bundle of hunger to deal with...

the nurse who gave O his injections said that she thought starting on solids at 4 months was fine and not to tell the HV!! wish i'd listened to her - i wasn't going to mention it but i'm rubbish at lying and she asked if i was still exclusively BF.

oh well - onwards and upwards (and now 3/4 of the way through the packet of chocolate hobnobs)

mrsg - i also have no self control and am now officially a big fat pig having eaten an entire packet of chocolate hobnobs, all dunked in one cup of tea (which resembled hot chocolate more than tea by the end).

Afternoon! New thread, wow, how sparkly

Haven't been able to catch up for a while, DP is working all hours which means no break in childcare for me. Also.....

...we went out last night.

You know, out, in the outside world, to a social event, without the children. Babysitter and everything!

It felt weird, but both children were fine and even though Orbit woke up, the babysitter settled him back down absolutely fine. We went to see Bill Bailey, which was insane and hilarious - really really good.

I shan't get involved in weaning discussions as you all know what I think Each to their own, and all that. I would say though that when babies start feeding like mad around 4 months, I think it's worth waiting a while to see if it is just a growth spurt before reaching for the baby rice. My feeling with Orbit was if I start him on rice and then he settles down, I won't know if it's the rice or just the end of the growth spurt that would have happened anyway, iyswim. So we waited, and he's now really settled again and back to his old feeding schedule, in fact going a bit longer between feeds than before. So for us, waiting was the right thing to do, IMO.

Bicnod - sorry you got rained on, and jabs sound . Had to take DS1 for pre school boosters the other day, that was really tricky as he's obviously aware of what's going to happen. Bribery with chocolate buttons and a Matchbox car got us through it

bebemoo your HV sounds like a looney - leaving a 4 month old baby to cry for an hour? I'd be in tears long before the hour was up.

Guimauve really glad you're feeling better! I'm sure you do have enough milk, I think H just isn't a fast grower. (She said, nevwer having met either of you! )

All this pressure on us to get them to weight the right amount and to sleep through the night, as if this was somehow absolutely essential, I think it makes us all a bit demented. Tiny babies need frequent feeding, and some more frequent than others, and some grow faster than others. End of story.

Boff grrrrrrrr about the second nanny! Hope you have some better luck soon.

Auld - really glad you had some nice time with DS1. I've been managing to spend more quality time with my DS1, and it does seem to be making a difference. We just made a glittery bookworm (Mister Maker has a lot to answer for....) including going to the craft shop to buy googly eyes and drew some pirates and it's been really fun.

Crawling babies ! Can't believe it. Wasn't it yesterday they were just born?

Must go and spend more quality time with DS1 before Orbit wakes up. Sorry if I missed anyone's news out!

bebe none of my hvs have had children either. They've all been perfectly lovely though just mad as hatters. there must be a breed

WFH- I'm with you re weaning but will keep quiet too

Izy has only had one lot of injections. we can't all fit in the car so its really hard to do anything during the holidays. I got an appointment for me yesterday but couldnt get a nurse one then.
I had to go though as had a temp of 38.5, was shivering and had a very sore boob. I'm sure you can work it out.
