Thanks Joanne.

Jimmy will be 1 month old a week Sunday, which terrifies me. He's also been quite unsettled of late which is maddening as he'd been astoundingly mellow right from birth and was even sleeping through the night. No longer. Darn!

He's so mesmerisingly handsome though that I could never hold anything against him for long. I'm definitely a tough cookie but I have a feeling he's going to be a right mama's boy in a few years. I have distant visions of myself in 20 years time as a full on Italianesque mafia mother with a string of sons who I'll guard with a string of obscenities and a huge rolling pin. It's a terrifying vision for a 20-year-old to behold but feels strangely "right" somehow. Christ!

It's such a lovely day today that despite general exhaustion I couldn't bring myself to stay inside so the boyfriend and I took Jim out for a spin and had a picnic. Am stuffed now, and exhausted, so el boyfriendo is curled up with him on the sofa. It never fails to amaze me that any human could be as besotted with another as he is with our son.

Wheelybug Wed 18-Mar-09 16:14:36

Hello !

Thought I'd pop in and say hello ! Well done for starting the thread joanne.

Loli - There's something so lovely about seeing fully grown men melting at their offspring isn't there ? LOL at picture of Italian Mama

Well dd2 is a week old tomorrow which is pretty amazing. I have just managed to walk around the block and feel ok so thats pretty positive !

Anyone else with really sore nipples ? I think mine have started cracking a bit - it was all going so well too. Its ok once she's been latched on a bit but really painful to begin with. DH got me some nipple shields today which I don't really want to use but at least I have them if it all gets too much.

twocutedarlings Wed 18-Mar-09 16:25:34

Hi Wheely

Have you got some Lansinoh nipple cream?, so far my nips have been fine, they seem to have toughened up really quickly this time round, thank god!! i also find that if you can get a bit of air on them it helps grin.

Wheelybug Wed 18-Mar-09 16:37:24

Hi twocutes. Yes, I am liberally applying Lanisoh and a bit of breastmilk which does seem to be helping. I did wander around last night with my nipples out until DH complained it was putting him off his dinner grin. Will keep going and hope for the best ! MW coming Friday who seems quite helpful.

jollyjoanne Wed 18-Mar-09 17:45:15

Did have one really sore nipple as originally Mae would only really feed on the right hand side, possibly due to the enormous bruise on her right cheek (presume from the forceps) which meant she was really uncomfortable when held to the left breast.

But now the nipples appear to be toughening although still sore when she first latches on. They calm down when she is actually sucking.

Mae does seem to be suffering with wind quite a lot though, which is supposedly less of a problem with breastfed babies so goodness knows what she would be like otherwise.

Mae is definitely not sleeping through the night and we're trying really hard to keep her awake during the day so that she starts to get into a bit more of a sensible pattern but it is so hard to wake a sleeping baby.

LOL at the mafia mum idea, but the DH is definitely going to be the dad who interviews every potential boyfriend and decides that none of them are going to be good enough for her! And don't start me on grandad, goodness me she is going to be one spoilt girly!

Hi all, just updated the list with my LO's name.

goldmother2b Wed 18-Mar-09 18:39:02

Thanks for the new thread joanne!

My nips are also a bit sore when Natasha latches on but the pain disappears after about 30 seconds. Am also using Lansinoh. Am really pleased that I have got to grips with BF so quickly as this was something I have heard so many horror stories about! She is 2 weeks old now, and has put on 6 1/2 oz in total - again really pleased that this is all down to me and my milk!

I left the house for the first time alone today - took Natasha to the post box and back - a real achievement as my pregnancy SPD had stopped me doing pretty much any walking for the last 2-3 months. Am planning to go to visit the local llamas tomorrow (probably a half mile round trip)and building up to walking to the local library for monday (have discovered that I can read and BF at the same time - bliss!)

Has anyone else got a runny tummy - have had this for more than a week now - not sure if its related to BF?

laumiere Wed 18-Mar-09 21:06:03

Am wondering if we should keep Gabriel up now, he'll be 4 weeks on Sat (gasp) and still only manages 2-3 hours between feeds. He's put on more than 1lb though and is already trying to turn over!

lolli still cant believe you took a bus during labour! You are hardcore! Sorry bout typing, feeding G and typing 1 handed...

Mum going home tomorrow so coping with 2 DCs under 3, wish me luck!

Missmodular Wed 18-Mar-09 22:24:36

Hi everyone - congratulations to have made it to the other side!!

Quick update: Melissa is two weeks old tomorrow, 9lb and already beginning to really fill out smile I had really sore nips the first week but they're beginning to settle down now. I wish I could say the same for my bits, which I still have to hose with the shower at every toilet visit to stop the stinging. I'm attributing the slow recovery 'down there' to a completely overambitous visit to IKEA last week, as I felt okay beforehand but crap ever since.

DP goes back to work tomorrow but DD1 in nursery which will break me in gently - although it's her last day there so it'll be 2 under 3 after that, so probably not too much time for posting here sad

jollyjoanne Fri 20-Mar-09 16:52:12

Well health visitor has been out today, she was relatively normal - after all the talk on here about HVs I was a little worried.

Mae has lost weight since birth (only 4oz) supposedly this is normal but it makes me a bit worried about whether she is getting enough food - breasts should definitely come with a little monitor thing on the side so you can see how full they are!

Is it normal for piles to get worse after you've had the baby - my backside seems to be getting worse not better.

But on a more positive note did manage to get a decent nights sleep last night - went to sleep at 11.30 ish got up at 3.30am for a feed and new nappy and then slept through to 8.30am! Hope this con tinues.

Wheelybug Fri 20-Mar-09 18:38:20

Sounds like a very reasonable loss Joanne. I get to meet the HV on Monday but I only ever saw the HV twice with dd - once when she was first born and at the 8 month check which I don't think they do anymore so hopefully this will be a one off meeting !! My MW was supposed to be coming today but she rang up and clearly couldn't be bothered so asked if I really needed her to or could she come monday ! Then was v. disapproving that I'd resorted to giving L a dummy last night so I could eat my dinner (I never gave dd1 a dummy and vowed never to but dd2 is soooo sucky and wants to be feeding all evening). Made me a bit weepy. Hormones - pah.

jollyjoanne Fri 20-Mar-09 20:01:24

We've given Mae a dummy, she was also sucking permanently especially when she is windy or tired so the dummy seems to have made things easier, and presently it doesn't seem to have affected the breastfeeding so i'm not worrying. I decided sucking a dummy was better than her thumb / fingers / top of babygrow, which was what she was doing anyway.

twocutedarlings Fri 20-Mar-09 20:33:18

Same here dummy wise, DS had one from day 3!! blush, he to is a very sucky baby and it works he loves it!! i have to admit both the girls have also had dummys and it never effected there BFing and i fed them both beyond 12mths, so if i was you wheely i would tell the bloody MW where to get off!!

Not sure about the piles Joanne i didnt have them with the girls, however i think i may have something going on the arse area!! i keep feeling like i need a poo blush (sorry for TMI), im not sure if this is the piles?? i cant feel anything on the outside though hmm i can just feel this sort of pressure IYSWIM.

laumiere Sat 21-Mar-09 19:07:26

2Cute, the pressure might be because of internal bruising, if it gets too bad you can get lactulose suspension from a chemist, it makes it a lot easier to go and is safe while BFing. Saved my sanity!

Very envious of the mummies with babies who are sleeping at night already, I was celebrating today for getting 12-3am, 3.20-5.30 and 5.40 to 7 am!

Also happy 4 weeks to DS2, can't believe he'll be 6 weeks by my birthday! (for the list, he was due 10/03).

Wheelybug Sun 22-Mar-09 15:20:50

Thanks for the posts re: dummies. TBH, she's not that good at takng the dummy after all that. She gets some comfort from it for a bit and then spits it out. She really wants to suck her thumb but I think its a bit small at the mo !

Not much to report. We seem to have one good night followed by one bad night which I suppose isn't too bad !

Actually went out this morning for a coffee which was really nice to get out. Felt almost normal. And managed to breastfeed in public whihc I was pretty chuffed about (managed not to flash too much boobage either grin).

laumiere Sun 22-Mar-09 20:19:14

I think I got the best ever Mother's Day present.... my night owl of a DH (he usually works 12-hr night shifts, 19.00-7am) got up at 7am on his day off, got our older DS up, dressed and breakfasted and quietly left me in bed with the baby (now 4weeks old).

I was joking that all I wanted this year was sleep, so a 3 hour lie-in and a cup of tea on arriving downstairs really was the best present ever!

Robert David arrived (finally 40 + 11days) yesterday at 3.25pm weighing in at only 8lb's.

Quick birth story

Got to the hospital at 8am to be induced. Given Gel at 10am when checked at 2pm was 8cm and moved to delivery suite.

And given gas & air got to 9cm when the midwives started to get concerned as baby heart rate wasn't recovering quick enough. Was rushed to theatre, where the midwives were getting the bits ready for a Ventouse delivery ready and the consultants telling us that they were going to put in an epidural, or just decide and do an emergency section when i pushed baby out. The cord was around his neck twice and he had low oxygen levels so we had to stay in so he could be checked later.

Have just one minor tear and no stitches.

Baby was back to back as well so today i feel like i have been run over by a steamroller grin.

laumiere Tue 24-Mar-09 14:33:39

Hah, I get to post the first post-natal whinge!

Am feeling very run through the mill today, Gabriel is feeding almost non-stop at the moment and is inconsolable if he knows I'm in the room. He of course is an angel for his dad!

Added to that am knackered from a cold and DS1 is being super-clingy when I drop him off at nursery and screams and cries non-stop, so I feel absolutely heart-broken at leaving him.

Arrgh!

twocutedarlings Tue 24-Mar-09 16:48:05

sorry your having a crappy day laumiere, do you thing Gabriel is having a growth spurt? IIRC they have one at around the 5 week mark.

As regards to DS1, would there be anyway you could spend a little time alone with him? not that im saying he is feeling pushed out or anything, but i am sure it would also make you feel better too.

i will be back later for my moan!! just BFing Alex and i need to but some tea on.
