Hi isaidno - I'm actually still waiting to give birth but there is a very active June 08 thread here - mix of people who have given birth and are still waiting who are all staying in the 'ante-natal' section until everyone has popped. our chat.

Congratulations on baby Poppy btw!

Hi isaidno I was on the July 08 antenatal thread aswell and like you my LO appeared in June. Mind you I've been chatting away on both June and July's threads throughout my pregnancy as my date was 1st July so thought it could go eitherway.

Like someone else said, I know the June ladies are waiting for everyone to pop before graduating over to postnatal, but thought I'd mark this one ready.

Hope you are doing OK. I've been up for an hour feeding DS2 who will be 5 days old at 8.07 this morning.

Right I'll find your list now and add myself ready.

Hi libralady - it's weird but Poppy is only 10 days old and being pregnant is a distant memory!
How's feeding Luke going? I think you were having a few latch problems weren't you? I have been on the July thread to read, but not posted there much. Poppy is feeding well, although she can be over enthusiastic and hurt me sometimes!

Hi isaidno

Am still expressing my milk for Luke as he still will not latch on. Even the nipple shields are not aiding.

At the moment all I can manage is 2 oz after 5 minutes on each breast. My breasts are completely drained by this point even after squeezing them whilst on the pump. I am trying to express each hour during the evening/night until bed so I can get a reserve in for night time feeding and then I express again when Luke wakes me during the small hours so I have something for the morning.

I would be totally lost without the electric pump. I am so glad I purchased one before hand. I know it's not ideal, but at least Luke is getting my milk, which is more than DS1 did. I don't care what the breastfeeding counsellors say, the most important thing to us is he's getting my milk albeit via a bottle.

MW said I should be giving him 4oz feeds now but I'm only producing 3oz in a 2 hour period so am having to top up with formula.

He has lost some of his birth weight (120g) and MW not worried in the slightest. She did day he has red jaundice and again not too worried, just need to get him in the sunlight more to help reduce this. Has anyone else had any experience of red jaundice? Only thought it came in the yellow form.
Also Luke had the Guthrie's heel prick test today. It broke my heart as she had to prick him twice as the first time hardly any blood came out despite having his foot in a bowl of warm water for 10 minutes beforehand.

Took Luke over to see my Nan earlier (she's 100 in 5 weeks) and she had a little cuddle. I got a bit upset as although I was there she spoke to my Mum about me as if I wasn't. 'Oh she's producing a family of boys then to continue the family name'. Then we had to explain yes, but it's DH's name not hers.
Bless her, she does have dementia and the number of times she asked how old he was and who's baby he was I lost count of. She also wanted to know where her family were as she thinks she's the only one left.

Also introduced Luke to the wonders of Cricket this afternoon. Got the captain to let us know when our side were batting so we could pop over and see the guys and they could admire Luke. The Captain is to be one of Luke's godfathers and he takes his responsibilites very seriously. Even thanked me for having Luke on his payday, so he should always have money when it comes to having to buy him a birthday present.

Sorry for the long post, but DH has gone out and there is nothing but crap on the TV.

EBM is great for Luke - and the longer you can do that the better. There are some herbal remedies which are supposed to aid milk production - Rumpel prob knows what they are.

Never heard of red jaundice - I thought it was only yellow too. When Poppy had the heel prick my DS2 was more distraught at the nasty mw hurting his sister!

Thanks for that isaidno

I'm going into town on Tuesday to register Luke so I will pop into health food store and investigate. It can't hurt can it?
I'm already taking arnica for the bruising and echanechea (sp?) for my cold.

Hi there, I've added my name to the list

ISAIDNO - baby girl; Poppy Elizabeth; born 18 / 6/ 08; 6lb 4oz
LIBRALADY - baby boy; Luke Thomas Jacob; born 23/6/08; 6lb 4oz
NEENZTWINS - twins; Theo Isaac 6lb 2oz and Esther Elizabeth 4lb 8oz; born May 6

I am in awe of anyone who can post on MN with a baby so young! It has only been in the past week I have been logging on again because before that every spare minute I had was spent catching up on sleep!

How are the sleepness nights going for you Isaidno?

Libra, I am sorry about Luke not latching on. Sorry if I was insensitive on the antenatal thread about the baby being better than a pump - of course you know that already. Esther was a fussy feeder at first and struggled to latch on. She used to thrash her head from side to side as if she didn't realise the nipple was in her mouth, then she would put her lips round it but not suck properly. have you tried expressing a little bit and then trying to latch Luke on? He may be a bit lazy, so getting the letdown going before latching him on may help.

I would advise just trying to get him on as often as poss - but I am sure you are doing that already . Also, with Esther it would sometimes take 10 mins, and I found the less I stressed the better she was. In fact, often it was when I had turned away to watch TV or something that she latched on on her own. I just put her near the breast and did nothing else. Even if she sat there for 30 mins it didn't really matter .

I'm not actually too tired, but DH goes back to work tomorrow and I am back on the school run. No more lying in bed feeding while everyone else gets up! I can't imagine coping with twins - that makes me tired just thinking about it!

Neenz

Went to a really informative BF workshop last Tuesday night and discovered that newborns can literally crawl up their mothers tummy and find the breast and latch on with no assistance. Didn't realise you could breastfeed lying flat on your back. I'd already tried to tummy to mummy, nose to nipple, rugby ball, lying on my side, so I gave this a try. Luke indeed did wriggle and found my boob, but lying flat on my back just sent them east and west (iykwim) and the nipple itself was even more inverted.
Even after being on the breast pump for 20 minutes they just recede immediately back. MW today suggested trying ice cubes and also leaning forward so gravity takes over (my boobs will form more of a pyramid shape). Have tried this as well, and he just gets so frustrated and I feel that after 10-15 minutes of trying and being as patient as I can, it is kinder to give him the EBM.

At the end of the day, he was going to have to go onto bottles sooner rather than later as I am returning to work after 12 weeks (unless my lottery numbers come up) but it was always my intention to express my milk for him to have that anyway. It's just happened sooner than I'd hoped.

Work are great because they give nursing Mum's time out for expressing and fridges are provided for storage. Anyway, don't want to think about work yet, I've still got another 12 weeks until I have to return.

Catch you tomorrow.

LLxx

LL sorry to hear about your BF troubles, I have no experience of this so will just send you positive vibes at the moment.

Just wanted to post my little boasts on here as well as I am such a pfb mum - Isaac saw the mw yesterday and has gained 3oz in the last week. Also we went to IKEA yesterday and I managed to feed him there and I was so proud of myself. Although DH says that I had lots of practice flashing my boobs as a drunken student!!

Thought it was about time to add on to the PNT now we have made it home from hospital.

I cant believe she is 4weeks today.

Libralady I have just about given up expressing my milk seems to have vanished now I can actually look after my baby...are you doing the boob massage and nipple rolling before, it does really help and you need to try 10mins each side. Good for you for sticking to your guns cause its bloody hard being stuck to a machine all the time.

Hiya tjuice and Essie.

Can I ask a personal question?
What do your tummies look like? I am feeling fat and depressed because mine still sticks out alot, despite not being that heavy. (just under 9 stone - was 8 stone 2 pre pg)

This is my 3rd baby, but I can't remember how it was after the last 2!

Dear mothers,

I am doing research on colic therefore I need mothers with young babies (below 7 months) to fill in a short questionnaire for me. The study is for my thesis and is trying to investigate whether/how colic has an effect on your well being.

I will provide you information about our findings after the data has been analysed. It is a good way to become aware of how your child's colic can change your mood, psychological state, and so on.

I would really appreciate your help as I am running out of time to collect data . Its a very short questionnaire! Please let me know if you will be willing to help me so I can send you the questionnaire

You can contact me on: [email protected]

Thank you all

Eby

Hahahaha, Isaidno! Well, to start with, you sound about the same size as me - I'm 9st now, but was 8 something (sometimes 8 and a half, usually less) before baby.
My stomach is bigger than it ever was before, but doesn't look like a bump. It's more like a sack of jelly! It kind of hangs, and I get tyres when I sit down. Bellybutton is strangely big and stretched too. I can fit into my old clothes, but I have a mega muffin top (not nice really!).
It does make me miserable - despite me not being particularly body conscious before.

Me? In exchange, can we discuss breasts? I'm concerned about my breasts. I'm bf, but I'm totally worried that I'll have empty droopy sacks when I finish. This is my first baby. Do I need to save up for surgery? (I'm only partly joking.)

Report
isaidno · 09/07/2008 17:28

essie - my belly button seems all baggy too!
As for boobs - well I am bf number 3. They look fabulous at the mo! IME they shrink back to normal (a cup) as soon as I stop bf. Some people say they end up bigger. They will certainly be softer and less pert so def save up for a new wonderbra!

Bf is worth it IMO.
