4 month old latched all night

Hello,

New mummy and also first time posting ☺️

I have a 4 month old baby boy, of course I have the usual paranoia about everything. His sleeping has never been great, however since Christmas time he is now waking every 45 minutes or sooner just wanting to be latched on to me. I am ebf, he doesn’t always ‘feed’ when he wakes so I don’t think it is hunger. He is sometimes sick and is quite a windy baby.

I don’t know if it could be reflux or whether I just have a needy baby.

Sorry for the long post, any advice or similar experiences would be super helpful.

4 months is the first sleep regression so that would explain why his sleep has gotten a little worse and why he wants comfort from you. Just feed and sleep as much as you can. Once the regression passes, you will find he should get better with his sleep.

@WhoseThatGirl, he hates the dummy. Just gags when I try, I’ve bought 5 different types and doesn’t get on with any of them. Wish he would take one.

They suckle for comfort, not just for food - my 4 month old sometimes stayed latched on all night 😂 (co-sleeping)

I would just go with it for now, he obviously needs that closeness and it won't last forever.

I have started to co-sleep half the night, my partner is on the sofa most nights as he snores horrendously (can’t deal with that too)

@Mummy2babyL she started de-latching herself at about 5 months, which was an improvement, so it might not last too long for you as a phase! Now she sleeps with her face in my armpit instead 😂

Hi @mummy2babyL I don't think it's too unusual. My nearly 10 month old spends all night like this and my older ones did too. I can usually sleep despite it but it doesn't make for the best quality sleep. I tried every dummy on the market but my LO just will not take them. I'm going to put up with it for now....

@Keyperfect so hard you just over think everything. One day I think he’s just fussy, the next I’m convinced he has reflux or something. My family just constantly tell me to ff but I’m not ready to give up yet. Makes me feel a lot better knowing others are in the same boat.

Yep the good old 4 month sleep regression! It nearly killed me with Dd 😬

However! It does get better, I promise. After about 3 weeks she started sleeping a lot better. Definitely just go with whatever works so you get the most sleep atm.
