Thank you for the new thread Stroan

Thanks @Stroan for the new thread. How is everyone doing?

@KnobJockey thanks, that's really helpful. I'll give my accountant a nudge and see what they think!

I made Felicity her first Chilli tonight (chunky for BLW), she loved it. This is so much fun, she is doing well, not fazed by flavour. We are only day 10 as had to stop when we all were ill.
Today she’s also had Banana and oat “cookies” for breakfast (its just baked oats and banana in biscuit shape), cheese omelette for lunch and some melty puffs as a snack.
It’s giving me something to do at least!

@happydays00 that's if you're off maternity of course 😊

Littlehouseinthebigcity Thu 02-Apr-20 08:04:49

@Megan2018 sounds good!! We've started weaning but are mostly doing purées - partly cos in the current climate I don't think I could deal surf the potential waste (DD1 didn't take to finger foods for ages!) I feel bad cos DD1 had all carefully homemade food but this time I've brought in some jars! With toddler DD1 at home all the time and DD2 still not settling for the evening I have no time!! On that subject - anyone got any tips!? 🙈 She doesn't go down properly until at least 10 then is up 2 or 3 times more in the night and without recharge time with DD1 in nursery I am really struggling!

Alice has sort of gone from that sleep schedule to waking once a night. I've tightly tucked a fluffy blanket on top of the mattress that Alice sleeps on. I know it's against sleep advice, but she was waking up screaming within the hour without it. It was either that or she slept in her Moses basket in her cot. And despite her being as small as she is, she wasn't going to fit in the basket for much longer.

I've also attributed her better sleep to weaning going well.

I say going well, but 2 of the 3 most recent meals have been seen again shortly afterwards in spectacular fashion. All 3 meals contained dairy, but the 2 she vomited with both had cheese in some fashion (fromage frais and grated cheese). She had vomited with cheese before, but I thought it was due to the cheese sticking to the top of her mouth and triggering her gag reflex too much, leading to vomiting. There's a small chance she may have been overfull both times, but I think I'll cut out the cheese for a little bit.

Hi everyone, hope you and your babies are all doing really well! Sorry I dropped off the last thread but I've found you again now! Would love to catch up but don't think I'll have the time! I keep up to date on the FB group but know there's a few of you here that didn't join it so would love to hear how you're getting on.

Geegrl19 Sat 04-Apr-20 00:54:37

Hi everyone. Hope you're all staying sane indoors. I'm not one to go out socially much, but miss being able to go to the shops browsing and sitting with a coffee. Oh well, small price to pay.

Sorry to hear your maternity leave was cut short @db92 that must have been hard.

Can everyone given their experience re finger foods?so Nate won't take a spoon under any circumstances. He did, but then was sick so is a no no now. He gags badly and chokes with finger foods, but it's the only way to get him to take any food. Spoke with the health nurse and she said that's the way I have to go but it's so stressful and freaks me out. He is more than happy to shove everything in his mouth (well I hold onto it so it doesn't all go in) and flavours aren't fazing him so am pleased with that, but how long will the bad gagging and choking last. I know it's their way of getting food up, but it's on even the tiniest of bits of food.

happydays00 Sat 04-Apr-20 08:01:58

@Geegrl19 my DS did this when I first started weaning and it was so bad I actually left it completely for a couple of weeks and then tried again. In those weeks I gave him completely smooth purees once or twice a day, I know you may not have that option though so I'm not sure this helps at all! Sorry! How old is your little one now?

Geegrl19 Sat 04-Apr-20 08:58:02

Hi @happydays00. He's just over the 7 months. I did give him a break whilst he was sick as I thought the comfort of milk would be better for him. I didn't want to leave too much longer and completely miss the window. I'm hoping he'll get the hang of it soon. I was hoping to fill his tummy a bit with yoghurt or weetbix but sadly it's not meant to be! He does seem to love broccoli strangely enough 🤣

Stroan Sat 04-Apr-20 09:53:45

@geegrl19 is the gagging bothering him? It's so hard to watch but if he isn't bothered, I'd just keep going. DS gagged really badly for 3/4 weeks but rarely gags at all now.

Geegrl19 Sat 04-Apr-20 11:25:11

@stroan no, it doesn't appear to unless he's really choked badly. Then again I'm sure my reaction doesn't help! The health nurse said to stay calm as he will pick up on my reaction. So will try to stay calm and ride it out 😬

Stroan Sat 04-Apr-20 11:30:05

I find this really helpful

It WILL get better

Dyra Sat 04-Apr-20 14:47:44

It definitely will get better. Nate might just have a sensitive gag reflex, and it should be practice and time that will dull the sensitivity. Has anything from the attempts made it through to his nappy yet?

I keep reminding my husband that noise is good, and that if he panics Alice will too. Now we just calmly watch to make sure the offending piece of food makes it way back out. Where she'll then proceed to round two with it....

Megan2018 Sat 04-Apr-20 16:42:33

I ignore the gagging. Felicity only has finger foods. It’s entirely normal, some just gag more than others. We are in week 3 almost and very little gagging now.

Apart from the other night when she attempted a massive but of jacket potato skin. That was quite dramatic grin

I’ve never offered purées but she’s showing promise with a spoon so will give her something she can play with.

Geegrl19 Sun 05-Apr-20 01:57:26

Thanks everyone 😊 I shall carry on and hopefully be reporting soon that he's eating well. That's a helpful diagram too @Stroan thanks.

I've got loads of purees frozen so have been steaming broccoli it cauli and using it to kind of scoop the purees on to so he can suck them from the veg too.

Not had a poop today yet, but hoping to see some evidence in there when he does 😊

yevans Sun 05-Apr-20 12:53:52

We had gagging here for about two weeks and then it seemed to go away! She only really gags now if she shoves too much into her mouth and seems to be quickly learning how to just put a small bit in

Dyra Sun 05-Apr-20 19:58:34

Any other babies get their first taste of BBQ today? Grilled pineapple and some of my vegetable kebab went down a real treat. If the weather holds, we'll definitely do more in the coming weeks.

db92 Sun 05-Apr-20 20:15:50

It is a bit crap @geegrl19 but I'm glad we'll have the opportunity to keep some money coming in.

Really glad to hear all the positive weaning stories! We're still really struggling with the gagging here. Anything remotely lumpy sets him off. But he'll happily hold his carrot crisps or pinch my toast. What I'm struggling most with is DP and how much he freaks out when he gags. If tried explaining the difference between the gagging and the choking. The link above was so helpful but he's refuses to accept there's a difference and panics at the slightest noise from E at dinner time. But frustrating really but atleast he's doing really well with the purées so is trying new tastes that way.

We've cut two bottom teeth this week and as a result have waved goodbye to a good nights sleep in the process! Hope everyone else with teeth popping up are doing okay x

Littlehouseinthebigcity Mon 06-Apr-20 20:09:28

We don't know if it ls teeth, a regression or something else but sleep is still pants here sad Thought maybe I was just being too keen putting her down at 7 so tonight thought I'd let her get up with her first waking but she just screamed and screamed until I fed her back to sleep! But then she always wakes up after about 20 mins 🙈
