Is my 3 week old eating too much?

My DD is formula fed and she is having 4oz at most feeds although sometimes she has 3oz - she has 6 bottles a day and goes between 3 and 5 hours between feeds.
Total daily intake is probably 21-24oz.
After looking at the formula box and reading online its suggested by 2 weeks she should only be feeding 5 times at 4oz - is she having too much?

She was 7lb 12oz at birth, dropped to 7lb 7oz at 3 days and appeared to be back to birth weight by 5 days, although at 13 days she then still weighed birth weight. HV wants me to have her reweighed next week just to check she is putting on weight (although we suspect she may not have really been birth weight at 5 days as she was also constipated)

Just some advice would be appreciated! She isn't my first but I'm definitely more of an anxious mum this time it seems, I've second guessed myself on a lot of decisions already Confused.

She's obviously not being over fed if she isn't putting on weight! You're supposed to feed on demand and to appetite

@dementedpixie I am definitely feeding on demand but I started having a middle of the night doubt when it says she should already have dropped a feed - I swear when I had DS it was 6 feeds for quite a while. I absolutely won't deny her though and she is definitely hungry (as opposed to tired and just wanting the comfort of suckling) :) I just wondered if it sounded like a lot for a 3 week old

3-5 hours between feeds is quite a long time at that age I think. It she isn't gaining well then I would be offering more often, every 2-3 hours. My DD was bottle fed but with expressed milk for the first 8-10 weeks or so and she had a bottle every couple of hours, three maximum, at that age.

Both mine fed every 2-3 hours at that age, day and night. The box gives average amounts but you tailor it to what your baby wants. You cant put a baby on a diet so feed her what she wants. 24oz is not excessive

5 feeds a day is def not enough for a newborn

The nhs feeding consultant we saw said newborns should be fed every 3 hrs which is 8 feeds over 24 hours.

We did this for 2 weeks and then she dropped one overnight feed so has 7 feeds a day and my health visitor was happy with that. She is fed every 3-4hrs

I am breastfeeding so it might be slightly different but I'm sure I was told 8-12 feeds in 24 hours is normal, my baby is also 3 weeks.

My DD always took much more than the formula guide on the back of the tub. Just remember that you cannot overfeed a baby. Congratulations on your new arrival! 💛

If she’s regularly draining 4 Oz bottles I’d make up 5 Oz. Doesn’t sound like a problem to me otherwise
