10 month old has temperature of 39.5

Hello all, I posted on here about two weeks ago that my little girl kept burning up, took her to the doctors and she was on antibiotics for a week for an ear infection. She’s been fine but yesterday and today she’s burning up again. During the day yesterday she was eating and drinking normally but last night was quite bad, up all through the night with her crying and temp at 39.5. Today she has been playing but has refused to eat anything and is only feeding from me for literally 30 seconds each time. It’s now night time and her temp has gone back up to 39.5, her skin is bright red (looks like she’s sunburnt it’s so red) she’s still not wanting to feed and is twitching her hands and mouth when layed down. She’s so hot I can feel it through my clothes when she’s layed on me. I thought that because she didn’t have a temp during the day she was getting better (have been alternating calpol and ibuprofen) but again tonight she’s really not well. I don’t know if I should give 111 a call as my mum said it could just be teething so don’t want to overreact but I’m just worried about how hot she is, any advice would be great xxx

I would call, that is very hot for a little one. When's her next medication due? Can you fan her to bring it down a bit?

That temperature is too high for teething.
I'm not going to tell you whether she needs the doctor tonight, that would probably depend on instinct and how well it comes down with paracetamol. But it certainly isn't teething. I would definitely take her to the doctor tomorrow if not tonight.

Call them. That is vey hot for that age, and you are better safe than sorry.

That's too hot for teething, definitely call 111 for advice.

I would call NHS24 - her temp is quite high - is it 39.5 with a dose of calpol or nurofen?

You know her best and you are feeling worried. Definitely ring 111 and let them decide if she needs to be seen. Every time my son had a temperature that high he ended up with antibiotics for either a throat or ear infection. Hope she’s feeling better soon.

My GP wanted to see my 11 month old when he had a temp of 38.6 recently. The fact that you can feel the heat coming from her and being bright red isn't right. I would give NHS a quick call, see what they suggest. Hope she's better soon.

Thank you everyone, had a trip to the out of hours doctors and she’s got another ear infection so back on antibiotics! Hopefully this will help her xxxx

update about half an hour after I posted that she started having convulsions, ambulance came straight out, took her temp and measured it at 40.2 so took her straight to hospital, the doctor said that it’s the ear infection that’s really causing her trouble and the convulsions were from where her temp was extremely high. They got a bed for her and stripped her off whilst they tried to rehydrate her, they said to go home and keep up with medicine and if temp goes over 39 to take her straight back in. So scary and her dad slept through it all...typical!! Hahaha, just glad everything’s okay, doctor agreed with you guys and said a temp that high should never be shrugged off as teething so thank you all for suggesting I get her checked!! Xxxx
