What to put in basket for new mum

Family member. Baby is less than a week old now. She was hoping to bf for about 6 months but has decided to switch to bottle due to pain. I had planned to put in loads of things like oat cakes, fennel tea, breast pads, nipple cream etc but need to change now.

I've a baby comforter and blanket. I was going to out in some gossip mags, nice chocolates/biscuits and then I get stuck.

What shall I put in? What about some bath stuff or smelly candles?

I appreciated bath stuff and candles when my baby was born because it was specifically for me whereas everything else i got given was for my baby. I think that is a really lovely idea and will go down well!
Maybe a simple board book would be a good idea, to read to the baby?
I had one which was just big black and white pictures and my newborn loved to stare at it.
I also got sent some bunting my aunt had made with my sons name on. I was really impressed with that. My son only has a short name tho so might be a bit more difficult if the baby has a very long name!

Muslins and bibs are always a good idea because you go thru those like no ones business and I always ran out.

Cook vouchers / homemade meal
Posh snacks/biscuits - night feeds can be tough, even without BFing!

My hubby and sister in law got me lots of snacks, all my fave chicks and crisps etc. Some nice shower gel and bath stuff. How well do you know her? If you know her well maybe some maternity pads etc? Hand cream fluffy socks just comforting things

Box set of a DVD she likes or a voucher for Netflix or such like. I spent a ridiculous amount off time watching TV at stupid o'clock in the first couple of months.

Snacks like cereal bars, bags of popcorn that can be grabbed from the sofa and eaten while baby sleeps on her.

Protein bars etc; I really struggled to make myself food as DD would cry if our down but I also didn’t want to eat crap all the time so some healthy food which I could eat while feeding with no prep would have been great

Multi-gyn compresses (from boots - about 10 sachets in a box) very soothing for the stingy bits!!

DH gave me a book for Xmas, The Unmumsy Mum, which is basically a blog about having a baby ( don't know why he bought it - I'm mid 40s and have a teenager -don't think he read the blurb Hmm). It's very much the sort of present you give to a new Mum - it's all about the trails and tribulations of new motherhood. Might be an idea.

Several tubes of nice hand cream. I was not prepared with DC1 for just how much hand-washing was involved in having a newborn and how quickly it would damage my hands.

Thank you. Lots of ideas. I want to try and make it more focussed for her as I remember feeling really left out when my kids were born. Everyone lives you when you're pregnant and then you are just left to cry out your hormones once the baby is out. Everyone wants the baby more.

What a lovely gesture! How about a nice eye mask for day time mini naps? I really struggle to sleep when it's light outside, but maybe your family members has better curtains than I do Grin
