The TTC #1 Grad Babies have arrived!

marmitecheesetoast · 20/07/2017 15:38

We started off talking about ewcm and opks with plenty of LSFX

Next came the ways to combat nausea, stretch marks and annoying bump comments ("Are you sure you're not having twins?!")

Now the Grad Babies have arrived and it's a whole new world of poonamis, monster possets and night feed madness!

Somewhere to chat about these cute but bewildering new bundles of joy and wonder if we'll ever sleep again or stop smelling of sour milk?! HmmGrin

I'll start off the roll call!

Marmite
DD1 - E or 'baby marmite' born 26/04/17 so 12 weeks

Likes:
Being swaddled (although desperately trying to move away from that)
Boob, boob and more boob
Teddy Bear's Picnic on repeat til I want to hunt down the manically cheery woman singing the song and shove a bloody teddy bear in her mouth so she can no longer sing about then

Dislikes:
Sleeping in the day
Her pram

Currently trying to work on actually getting her to do some daytime napping, and trying to stretch out the time between feeds which was every hour and a half but more often goes 2 hours between feeds now, hurrah!

Thanks marmite

Baby Hector (H) born 05/07/17 so 2.5 weeks

Likes - eating and pooing!
Going in the pram / car

Dislikes - sudden loud noises
Swaddling
Blankets / covers

Things are going well and so far he's a god baby. Everyone keeps saying that will change and maybe it will but it annoys me that people are such naysayers - I hope he's really good for ages just to annoy them!

Glad it's going well for you so far seahawk! Everyone has an opinion though don't they! Babies change so much in those early days and all babies are different too so you've just got to get to know your own baby and not worry about what other people say!
It's funny how H and E are the opposite on some things like the pram and swaddling!! We've started leaving E unswaddled for sleeps the last couple of days but she still has such a strong startle reflex. It's really not helping with daytime naps! Also the last couple of nights she's regressed from her one middle of the night feed to 3 and, even worse, did not go back to sleep between 2am and 4am feed for two nights in a row! No idea what that was about but I bloody hope it's not going to happen again tonight!! ShockSad

Funny one today when we realised we think E was concieved a year ago this weekend!! Grin How long ago that seems but equally so bizarre to have a 12 week old in my arms right now! We had a little glass of fizz earlier to mark the occasion!

Right, currently trying to boob her to sleep and hoping for an early night! Should hopefully get at least 2 hours before next feed...

Gah why do babies fight sleep so much when they are exhausted?!! Sad

Hello all! Grin

DD1 - Little Fishy aka LF born 09/05/17, 11 weeks old

Likes - walks in her pram, kitty rattle, bubbles, singing

Dislikes - car seat (though we're improving on that) and blankets (sleep bags are amazing for this!)

Marmite with you on the napping thing. LF's is more in the evening, she won't go down to sleep and gets grizzly and the only thing making her grizzle is that she's sleepy! When she's down she's an angel but getting there can sometimes be hard work!

Seahawk LF's been a pretty good baby since day 1 and has stayed that way so poo to all the naysayers out there!

Hey Fishy!

Isn't it funny how different each baby is, must say I'm quite jealous of both you guys having babies who like walks in their pram!! Although E is starting to get a lot better with the pram now and will sometimes fall asleep if I get the timing right, and play teddy bear's picnic and white noise off my phone!!

Yup Fishy getting them down to sleep can be hard. Have you tried white noise?

Have you guys been to many baby groups yet? My all time favourite is called Sling Swing - it's a baby wearing dance class! It's really good fun, really feel good. Have found it's the only class I can go to to actually do some exercise as at all the other classes E gets annoyed but as this one involves her being in the sling, she sleeps! Perfect way to guarantee a nap as well Wink Anyway it's a franchise and has classes nationwide so thought I'd recommend it as might be classes nearby wherever you are and is by the far the best thing I've done. Plus it's only a fiver a class which is good - some of these yoga and other mum fitness classes are £8 or £9 a go which is quite a lot when you inevitably spend half the class sitting on your mat feeding! (I'm not on commission by the way!)

What are you guys up to this weekend? We have some of our last friends who haven't met E yet coming to visit. They're coming down from Scotland and will be our first overnight visitors!

We used white noise on our phones so much in the early days! Tried buying a Euan the Dream Sheep to replace but it wasn't the same. She's outgrown white noise now though, it has to be mummy singing!

We go to Baby Time and Rhyme Time, 2 of the free ones which are great. So far only tried 1 class and wasn't super impressed. Like you said, if you're going to spend half the class feeding or changing nappies you want it to be brilliant!

At the weekend we had a BBQ which was a bit of a washout Saturday and a brunch date Sunday. Hope your visit went well and everyone got some sleep!

Rhyme time sounds good Fishy, do you find when you go to some of these things you knowledge of nursery rhymes is somewhat lacking but everyone else seems to know the words?! Or is that just me?! Blush We have a free baby massage class at our sure start centre which is great.

Today I tried stringing two baby groups together without going home inetween for the first time... it didn't really work out that well! The timings of E's feeds and naps meant we ended up spending the first half of the yoga class with her asleep in the sling - so was a bit limited what I could do! And most of the second half feeding! She was then in a happy place ready to go just as the class was finishing Hmm

Sorry to hear the BBQ was a washout but brunch sounds fun! Weekend with our visitors went relatively well too.

Off to get baby marmite weighed tomorrow, has been a few weeks. Wonder what the result will be!

Wonder how Moose is getting on with baby Moose and whether they have internet sorted now - hopefully she'll find us soon!

Hope everyone is having a good week so far

Went to get baby Marmite weighed at baby clinic this morning for the first time in a while, and her weight gain has plateaued which means she's now dropped from the 25th to the 9th percentile Sad Confused just when I thought feeding and everything was going really well, no problems, now I'm worried that she's not getting enough milk. Going back to get her weighed again in a fortnight so will see what happens then. Feel a bit stressed about feeding now though which is never good

Hi @marmitecheesetoast and @LovelyFishy sorry I've been so absent. I hadn't been on here and then kept thinking it will take me ages to catch up I'll do it when I have time! Ha!

Sorry baby marmite isn't gaining as much weight as you'd hoped. Did you get to speak to the health visitor about it? My friends baby exactly bathe same - has dropped to 9th centile but the HV said they aren't concerned as he's still gaining weight. Try not to stress out too much about the feeding, I'm sure she's doing fine and you're doing a great job.

All good here, H is still very good. He hates blankets too so I've just started using a sleep sack and he seems to like it, I was worried that I'd be putting him to bed in 5 babygros come winter!

Hope you guys aren't too depressed on this rainy day.

Sorry to hear weight gain isn't what you wanted Marmite, hope it's sorted itself out by now.

Seahawk I know what you mean, nearly did a sleepsack and blanket last night! Luckily you can buy them in good thick togs. And the patterns are so cute! Grin

We had an exciting trip out to the shopping centre yesterday as it was too wet to go outside properly! Did have a nice little stroll today which is always nice.

Thanks seahawk and fishy yeah I'm not too worried, was just a bit of a shock at the time. She feeds lots and is doing loads of wet and dirty nappies. Tbf, she'd also had a massive poo just before we went to clinic Grin will take her back to get weighed again next week and see what they say. She was never going to be a massive baby anyway being nearly 2 weeks late and 6lb 15!

The sleeping bags are great aren't they. We used the grosnug to finally transition baby marmite from being swaddled to not as you can put one arm out at a time! She still has quite the strong startle reflex but given she ROLLED OVER the other day it's probably just as well we're no longer swaddling! Shock

How's everyone's week going? Having a nice break at my mum and dads for the week - great to be able to go back to bed for a nap after a disrupted night!

Well done on rolling over Baby Marmite! Grin LF's trying, got over half way the other day then gave up!

I bought a pretty box to start packing LF's baby cards away in (I know, it's been over 3 months but I love her and I love them!) and create a memory box for when she's older. Went through H&M where they have a lot of shimmery/sparkly fabrics at the moment so it was like a free sensory experience!

Glad you got a restful weekend in, sleep truly is the greatest luxury nowadays! I'm debating if I should go to the gym this afternoon or watch The Wizard of Oz and have a nice cup of tea! Brew

Seahawk80 · 18/08/2017 09:58

We still have all the baby cards out fishy!

Interesting to hear what you guys say about classes, I don't think I'm going to bother until November when H will be bigger and the weather will be rubbish. Will stick with long walks til then! Am walking from Greenwich to the Thames barrier today.

H has grown out of almost all his newborn clothes and after a few leaks I've also realised he needs to go up a nappy size soon 😭 - don't want him to not be a newborn anymore!

Hope you both have a lovely weekend.
