Had the same as yesterday with DD not eating more than 3oz of each feed until after her afternoon nap then she had 6oz!!!

So DS has managed a total of around 18/20oz last couple of days. His norm is more like 30+. I'm giving him calpol once or twice a day when he has a low grade fever which has been almost everyday recently. Apart from that I have tried anbesol for the gums and chamomila granules. He seems most bothered at feeding times though and these Are becoming a nightmare. He fights and fights the bottle and gets very distressed. Any tips? I'm reluctant to give calpol/nurofen unless he has a temp but beginning to feel like it's the only option... outside feeding times he is happy gnawing away on teether or fingers or anything else he can get his hands on!

I've been thinking of using one of these...on the odd occassion she's gumming down on her fists or my fingers

I've tried powder and gel but I don't feel like I'm getting it directly on her gums. Thought getting one of these would have better contact with her gums.

I'm still not convinced teething is what's preventing my DD from finishing her feeds. She's quite happy taking a feed and doesn't seem to be in any discomfort while feeding she just isn't hungry so pushes the bottle away with a cheeky smile. Plus she will finish bottles just more later in the day and during the night.

purple have you tried feeding while he is snoozing? Just to top him up a bit?

We've had similar issues with DS refusing/fighting a bottle. Slightly different because he is mostly breastfed but DH does sometimes give him a bottle. I think when they're teething the teats can be painful for them. My solution was to get softer teats (which are slightly kinder on the gums) and also the next size up so the flow is a bit faster... that way he doesn't have to suck as hard to get the milk out. We switched to MAM teats (softer silicone than the Avent teats we were using) and we also got some NUK latex teats (softer than silicone) which we didn't end up trying. The teats helped but weren't a magic fix for us, DH had to persevere and it was still a bit of a battle, but (touch wood!) DS seems to be taking the bottle again now. DIstracting him with a favourite book or toy seemed to help apparently!
We also have a teething ring you can put in the fridge, which can help if he chews it before a feed, as it can numb the gums a bit, or at least takes the edge off just enough for him to be able to feed. Also I've read that ibuprofen is more effective than paracetamol for teething pain as it's an anti-inflammatory.

Thanks carol I've never seen that before. I was thinking the same thing - he isn't hungry. But he does appear to be hungry at some feeds as well. If he does start to have the milk he will have as much as he can and when breaks off for a burp he doesn't have it again. He's started waking up earlier in the morning , i think either due to teething pain or because he isn't having enough milk during the day. But then when he has the milk he'll only have whatever he can before breaking off and then refuses the rest.

Thanks namechange. Missed your message as I started typing last night! I have dr brown bottles, does anyone know if different teats would fit? We are already on level 3 because the milk is rather thick. I'll try the next level up anyway. Thanks for the advice!

Aww it's never ending is it! So far he has had 5oz today... gave him nurofen and applied anbesol to his gums beforehand too. I think he's having just enough to keep hunger away. It's reassuring he is a good weight though

purple DD is the same today. She's had 8oz in 14 hours. Tried just about everything I can think of. Getting her weighed again Wednesday will be interesting to see what she is now.

I don't know whether it was because she was starving or because I changed to number 3 teat but DD just had 5.5oz straight after her nap

I actually think it's the teething gel - fast flow tear combo she's just had another 4oz and fallen straight to sleep. Her eyes were going before the feed but kept her awake so she could have a feed

It's Dentinox. Seems to be doing the trick. Just sent my OH out for more number 3 teats. The only reason we had them is coz I bought them by mistake lol. Now I just need to sort out my cupboard it's full of 4oz bottles, teats we're not going back to, and a few different bottles with different teats we were trying at the beginning.

She is also starting to teeth. Has foul nappies. Drools and chews fists and fingers and anything she can Stuff in her mouth

Congrats on your DD, I have a friend who went through something similar to. She to has just had a DD after years of ttc, operations etc. She had a high risk pregnancy and had an emergency c section at 33wks so I can only imagine your journey to your LO

My DD is also 3.5 or 16wks, we also teething with fist/finger chewing. Was so much better when we switched to a faster flow teat

Hello all, I wish I'd realised there were these threads much earlier! I'm mummy to DD who was born mid March, 17.5 weeks. I've picked up tons of helpful tips from you all, so thank you.

I'm still ebf my girl, though we've tried expressed bottles she's not keen due to her high arched palate from posterior tongue tie - does anyone have any recommendations for teats? She needs a fatter teat so that she can establish a seal to suck.

Also, is anyone else still ebf and experiencing massive gaps between poos? We've been reassured it's OK and normall for ebf babies, and baba is perfectly happy and well but we've experienced a bit of judgey stuff from friends and family so would be nice to know we're not the only ones who get this!
