Bootiful. Thanks!

BP, fine - and no rush this end, as long as your dd isn't about to grow out of them!

dd2 is in a ME small nappy and a ME medium wrap (the only one I have). If she doesn't leak all over the place this time, will brave the nappy sites and start shopping again...

Will you stop talking about reusable nappies please as you are making me feel guilty

I already do 3 loads of washing a day ... how do you manage? I know you just do, but how do you?

Jeez, what a morning. I SOOOOOOOOO don't miss work. Why oh why can't they just get on with it and let me enjoy my matty leave in peace? They want me to attend a 1 day workshop, FFS . Um, no. Not unless they're prepared to put DD2 and I up somewhere nice, and put up with me BF through the whole thing. I wouldn't mind if it was in the same town or anything, but I'd have to fly there. No, no, no.

Sorry - had to rant.

I had a little weep yesterday as I packed away the little tiny newborn clothes. End of an era. On the bright side, LOs get so much more interesting from here on in

On a completely different subject, we went to a party on Saturday night. DD1 (nearly 5) has always been a bit precocious, and loves showing off dancing and singing. But she has suddenly become very shy, and worries about people laughing at her. It just breaks my heart. On Red Nose Day she had put the nose in here hair (it looked really cute), but pulled it out in embarrassment when a little sh*te in the school playground laughed at her.

babypowder. my dd (3) has always been a show off but has recently told us to stop taking photos of her and is showing signs of shyness

Castles - I do a nappy wash every 4 days - I think i have 28 nappies, the special nighttime ones can do 10-12 hours (if no poo), and I only do on average 4-6 washes/week (including the nappy ones) - so that's how I manage!
Whilst looking for where I read that 50 min bfing is normal (somewhere on www.kellymom.com, plus a certain author suggests 20-30 mins to empy each breast I think) I happened upon this: www.unassistedchildbirth.com/miscarticles/milkmen.html
Give yourselves a break and let the men take over!
Need to catch up as lots seems to have been posted since I last read yesterday.

28 nappies, sacha omg! I thought 19 was excessive, think I'll have to justify more now to avoid washing...
Castles, you do have 3 to contend with, but I'm not finding it any more hassle really. In order to fit the nappies in (I do 3 loads a week, but put towels in there too) I cut down how often I washed the towels & bedding & stuff's being worn more. I think I was washing too much really, there were a couple of threads on this in housekeeping I think. Hope I don't sound dirty now...

Just looked at the article, sacha, omy again. DP couldn't even look at me with my pump yesterday as I reminded him too much of a cow. Charming, but he did buy me flowers for md.

Castles, ahem, I'm giving away reusables and dd's wee bum has only seen one close up on three occasions so far! I do two washes per day with only the two, most days, am sure I overwash too.

BP, me too, re the newborn clothes. Though that was a while ago now, dd is into 6 month stuff already

Hello Glassy

ps try Medised? I did use 2.5 mls one night when dd2 couldn't breathe for snot, seemed to help - dries it up a bit. They have to be over 3 months.

I'm still confused, glassy, must go look at other thread.
My ds as he is fat little pumpkin, and when wearing fluffles has moved to 9-12 vests. Bypassed half of the clothes handed down from his brother, and no trousers will fit on his enormous bottom. Sigh.

Report
castlesintheair · 19/03/2007 11:58

Glassy, wotcha could you try another brand of cough medicine? Benylin for children? Or Medised to dry up the gunk like Eli says?

Oh dear, maybe I am overwashing too Eli My DCs are so dirty though . I change DD2 at least 2 times a day and DD1 (3) often has a clothes change and DS, well, he comes home from school covered in chalk or mud and I have to wash all his uniform. Plus DH flings everything daily into the laundry basket with gay abandon ...

Lol Eli I don't think fairies are quite ds's thing!

hello glass! the new pair must be a little harder on the feet than the old!

Must say I wash nappies everyday, suppose I could get away with every 2 now that he goes through fewer nappies a day but that would involve a bigger nappy bucket and really tis no work at all to pop them on overnight or first thing and quickly hang them out.

Sacha, I'm quite at 50min feeds, ds dos about 10 min a side max.

Little people do produce a lot of snot don't they! Ds is at the tail end of his cold now so I keep getting nice big globs of green stuff!

babypowder · 19/03/2007 12:11

On the washing front, I do nappies every other day, but DHs work shirts , pants, towels - anything that will go in, basically - gets done at the same time.

DH also chucks everything into the washing basket. I simply take it out, give it a quick press, and hang it back up. What he doesn't know can't hurt him

Eli - I've CATed you twice. I am officially brain dead ...

Report
SachaF · 19/03/2007 12:13

Ah, have trained dh that a work shirt can be worn for two days if he puts it on a hanger after wearing, and I trained myself to do that when I first started work and couldn't keep up with the washing and ironing. Plus lucky me dh loves to live in the same t-shirt and trousers for days when not at work - whether he is working in the garden or going out for lunch! - I do sometimes have to ask him to change if we are going out as a t-shirt covered in fence paint is not really appropriate - mind you he does also think that the kitchen is his work room and if the rugby is on then the living room is his workroom - I caught him sanding in there the other day! Which means extra house cleaning instead of laundry - but through you lot I've discovered flying!
Anyway, shocking news, ds slept from 11.30 until 6.30 last night! He has just got over a cold and is really snotty so not sure if that is related. I did have to go and sit with him twice for half an hour as he was groaning and whimpering in his sleep (helps if I hold his hand, otherwise he starts screaming) - I don't know what he has nightmares about - maybe my milk drying up!. Of course this will now be a one off and never happen again - but now we know he is physically mature enough not to need feeding over night! And he wasn't particularly hungrier than normal in the morning.
28 nappies - 20 prefolds which are cheap and easy - £9 for 6 I think, which makes it worthwhile having more and washing less! I just thought it didn't seem very environmentally friendly to keep doing half washes - I had heard about putting towels in as well but just can't bring myself to do it! Maybe when he doesn't poo 3 times a day...

Blimey, I must be a push-over then! In fact, DH was telling me at the weekend that his friends are all envious of him as (apart from my stunning sex-goddess likeness) I'm so laid-back over absolutely everything and don't nag. Do you think I can change?!

Attempting to get ds to do daytime naps. Had him in his cot for an hour til 12.40, curtains drawn (and they have blackout lining) and he slept a bit on and off and chuntered til he got bored. Now he is flat out on my bed as I type (because I'm doing my Spanish translation obviously not MNing ) with the sun streaming in!

BP, just checked my CAT status and my sub ran out in February - have renewed it just now. NOt sure if thats why, but haven't received either of your two CATs yet?

Indith, sorry about the fairy

My dh is more like Sacha's, I surreptitiously go through his clothes and stuff them in the linen basket before he can rescue them. But dd is usually up for a full change by the end of the day, and dd2 twice a day, and me at least once a day as tops get sicky and bottoms get grubby from kneeling on floor/lying down playing at being something or other with dd1/spilling food all over myself
