Would it be ok if I join you? I lurked a bit on the antenatal thread but was too ill with HG for the whole pregnancy to join in properly. Now DD2 is here I feel like a new woman despite emcs!

DD2 born 13th Oct by emcs at 39+1. Been in and out of hospital due to a couple of complications but all clear now and just settling into life with our gorgeous newborn. Knackered, milky, hormonal but happy 😊

How's everyone else getting on?

Welcome lokahsamastah! The more the merrier!

Only on day two here so no attack of the hormones yet! I am feeling much more rested than before the birth though even though DC4 is proving to be a bit of a night owl and sleeps for much bigger chunks during the day than at night.

How old is your dd1? How is she adjusting to the new arrival?

It's such a relief to not be pregnant anymore isn't it?! We've also got a night time waker at present although swaddling after every nappy change last night seemed to do the trick. Got to keep an eye on her as she's got a bit of jaundice but advice is to keep feeding which she's doing really well so fingers crossed it will clear soon.

DD1 is almost 5 - she's been ridiculously excited ever since we told her and seems to be relishing her role as Big Sister. How are others kids taking it? I'm secretly hoping that this age gap might mean less jealousy/competition!

Our older DC are 3, 7 and 8. Older two have been great. Little one is flitting between being a little helper and then a full on threenager!

Afresh my eldest is blowing very hot and cold around baby just like your 3 year old. One minute she's all "aww baby!!" And rubbing his head, the next minute she's having a screaming tantrum on the floor because she's been told she can't sit on her brother while I'm feeding him Hmm

DS arrived 10/10 by elcs. 6lb 9oz with the tiniest face I've ever seen.

I had a few teary days starting last weekend and I've been in quite a lot of pain but today has been better. Especially has been a milk monster though and also was awake from 8am till 1pm, which seems a long time for a 10day old! He wasn't cranky though which was something. He's also a bit of a night owl. His longest sleep is over the evening and then he only sleeps for around 90 mins to 2 hours at a time over night.

How much milk would you expect a 10 day old to drink?

Hi everyone.. DS arrived 19/10 11 days overdue at 7lbs 14oz. He is our first and I'm trying to Breastfeed which I thought had started ok but he already wants to feed more frequently/has strong suction and I've got one sore boob. Anyone else trying breastfeeding?

lokahsamastah · 21/10/2016 05:24

Breastfeeding here too Dizzy! Has your milk come in yet? Mine looked like comedy boobs and were as solid as rocks by 4days pp! Just coming out the other side now, they were so uncomfortable.

No not yet. I'm feeling quite confused and a bit stressed today to be honest. DS has really struggled with mucus which hasn't helped but I thought he got plenty on colostrum yesterday (only two days old). Feed him at around 10.30 for 10mins off one side and 15 the other but he was looking and crying out for more at 11.15 and I could hand express or get anything out with the pump and he just wasn't getting anymore.. hence the now one sore boob. I've not tried him since till just 4 because I was afraid to wake him and have nothing but conscious 5 that now is definitrly 7 hours since he took anything and I'm really struggling to stir him and get him to suck! Argh this breastfeeding is hard and it's not even properly started. What has anyone else been advised about these first three or four colostrum days? Wondering if it's the hospital that have just got me stressed that I need this 3/4h feeding pattern established when the milks not even through

I can't help RE breastfeeding at all unfortunately as I've never done it. I imagine not knowing if baby is getting enough is very stressful though Sad

Ds born Tues AM has fed overnight at 12, 230, 4, 530 and now 610

First day or so he wasn't that interested but seems to be picking up now

Advice I was given was don't worry about quantity/volume at this stage, just offer boob on demand or every 3 hours. On demand may well be every hour at this stage, then a big sleep, then before you know it your milk will be in.

It does hurt though, the first week is the hardest, nipples don't know what's hit them and when milk comes in you end up with these leaky, solid rocks on your chest! But it passes …

Kariana hope you're feeling better. My cs wound is still sore but copin, it's my boobs that are screaming at me today as decided to stop bf and going cold turkey on them but it is hell. DC2 is the same age as yours and is cluster feeding formula right now (the perfect prep machine is a godsend!) and can put away a lot! I'm just letting him eat when he wants to - as long as they're gaining weight and producing wet/dirty nappies it's fine.

Slept on the sofa last night with him because he wouldn't settle and look so rough that I've decided to just use my normal face for Halloween Confused

Re breastfeeding:

My milk started to come through yesterday and I have Dolly Parton boobs today. It isn't any easier the second time but trust me it does get better. Both breasts are rock hard and lumpy. They feel very full and nippy. Try a warm face cloth on them and hand express just enough to take the edge off. I stink of sour milk.

Both nipples are sore. I wince through the first 30seconds of each feed. All very normal in the first week.

Don't worry about baby getting enough. Just keep offering. I was in bits with my first and it turned out she only lost 2oz that first week which was nothing. I ended up feeding her for near on two years and it was only those first couple of weeks that were tough.
