No 6 week post natal check

Having given birth last month I contacted my go surgery to arrange a date for my 6 week post natal check and was told that they don't go them unless there are specific concerns of the woman had a lot of stitches.
Is it now the norm for women to not have a 6 week postnatal check up? When my last child was born (a decade ago) it was the norm for every woman to have a 6 week postnatal check up.

Do you have a health visitor you can check that with?

I do have a health visitor, she visited when baby was 2 weeks old and isn't due to come back until he is 3 months old. I could try and see the health visitor at the baby clinic but last time I went to clinic it was just an assistant doing the weighing and no actual health visitor in sight Confused.
Maybe this is the result of all the NHS cuts.

Phone her and clarify.

As far as I'm aware, no, it's not a new thing. You are due a 6 week check. I'm due mine this week.

Sorry, I meant to add, I had a normal delivery, out of the hospital 6 hours after she was born, no problems since then and no specific concerns relating to stitches. The surgery are happy to see me.

Ours don't do a 6 week check, big they do book a gp appointment at the same time as 8 week old jabs (it saves time for everyone ). Maybe this could be the case.

Had my check up at dd2 8 week injections. Much less faff imo having to visit the dr twice.

I will phone and check as the midwife mentioned the 6 week check when she discharged me and baby.
