Happy Mother's Day berries!

cav I'm wild with jealousy too at someone in my baby sensory whose baby is 5 months and has slept straight through all night pretty much from birth, 10-12 hours a night! Shock Asked her what her secret is - her baby just "likes her kip"! Envy

I had a day off yesterday - spa day at the Sanctuary and meal out, it was so lovely and desperately needed! S is sleeping ok still, 6/7 hour run from her bedtime at 7.30pm and then wakes up every 2/3 hours from that feed on. However she seems to be wide awake around 5am the last few days so mean mummy has to get her back to sleep with a dummy!!

Happy Mother's Day! I still have to wait a couple of months for mine, both Estonian and French ones are in May, but on different weekends.

V slept like M last night, 12,5 hours with one wake up. Difference being that this is an excellent night here.

alex my closest friend from post natal has a son the same age as Harvey who has slept 12 hours a night from 4 weeks!!! I am so jealous, he now sleeps about 16 hours a day, including naps. Shock
She thinks its because she was really lazy during pregnancy!

Harvey is sleeping 9-9 with one (sometimes 2) wake ups, this I can handle sorry cav

Hope you all get spoilt today! Thanks Thanks

I got woken at 1am by a drunken and horny OH who celebrated Palaces win over Chelsea a bit too well, when I spurned him he went to sleep downstairs as he snores when he's drunk, although he had the 'ump and didnt take the baby monitor, H then had me up at 3 and 5 so not the best night.

Ok slow coach ere just realising there's a new thread...

So sleeping through from birth? Why am I being told to wake her every 3-4 hours to feed, is it not actually necessary? I know it's good for the milk supply so perhaps that's it?

My personal opinion - unless there are issues with weight gain, never wake a sleeping baby.

I've decided I want a newborn again. Not another you understand, I've not completely lost it, I just think I should trade this one in for a younger model. 9 month olds are super cute, the waving and babbling and random wet slobbery kisses, all very cute but:

This one still doesn't bloody sleep, she's obviously broken so I need a new one.

I think longingly of lovely little breast fed baby nappies, the nappies she's producing now are beyond vile. I need a hazmat suit to change her. Small babies also lie still while you change them instead of writhing and crawling away smearing shit as they go.

Little babies sleep in the day, you can go for a leisurely lunch and they don't even stir. Now I have to try to restrain an angry octopus that's mashing half chewed breadsticks in my hair. Trying to hold a conversation whilst you're being headbutted or having a spoon inserted up your nose with force isn't easy.

I miss having boobs, one minute they were there and then they just deflated!

Newborns stay where you put them, you can pop them down and walk away without turning around and they're chewing a dog toy/trying to paddle in the dog bowl/pulling everything out of a kitchen cupboard.

When a newborn is sick it's a little inoffensive splosh of milk. Not any more! the other night we had exorcist style puking, three entire changes of clothes for me and her in about 15 minutes. Proper nasty offensive vomit, I smelt like of been lying on a nightclub toilet floor by the time she'd finished.

So anyone fancy a swap? Even just for a few days? She's very cute when she's not overtired and screaming, teething and screaming, hungry and screaming, ill and screaming or generally trying to kill herself so not very often then

Sigh. No I suppose I don't want to trade her really and it is all worth it and all. Just don't be fooled by the cute face, she's a pain in the ass, the wages are shit, the hours are ridiculous and the boss is an absolute tyrant but it's still the best job I've ever had.

Hummm very tempting lilly, you should really be in sales Wink but think I'll pass just this once.

Thunder I second the never wake a sleeping baby matra, she will wake you when she is hungry. Unless you are having baby weight issues this has to be the shittest advice given to new mums!

Report
PickledLilly · 30/03/2014 20:48

Well I did/do have baby weight issues and I still live by the 'never wake a sleeping baby' rule.

Report
Cavort · 30/03/2014 20:58

Ha Lilly snap! I could have written your post myself! Very cute but bloody hard work and when is this damned sleeping supposed to happen?! Angry

I also agree to never wake a sleeping baby. In fact I was never told to wake her to feed so the day after she was born I let E sleep for 8.5 hours solid and she's barely slept for that long since. She was clearly knackered from the birth and it didn't lead to any problems getting feeding established.

I meant a baby with weight issues! Although I am feeling fat after a big lunch today. Anyway, waking a baby up is like poking a rattlesnake with a stick, nobody sane would suggest it to an already sleep deprived Mum. I had one HV tell me to do it when L was already waking me up every two hours. I might not have actually told her to fuck off but I must have given her the look as she never mentioned it again Blush

Thunderpantsarego · 30/03/2014 21:15

OMG why have so many people told me to do it?! That's bonkers. No weight loss issues here but the mw did tell me sternly not to go over 3 hours at the moment because she has a bit of jaundice.

I totally understand the mantra of not waking her because she feeds so much better when she has woken herself up...because she's hungry... bloody obvious innit

We had a poonami last night. After 4 days of no poo! I hooked my finger in the side of her nappy and it took me a while to puzzle out why everything in sight was yellow Grin and she weed during the change washing poo everywhere!
In other news, after a 4 hour cluster feed we had five and a half hours sleep!! (Clearly I have signed up to never waking a sleeping baby). I am singing and dancing like Mary Poppins because I feel so much better

Well done mini merk!

I am enjoying sweet smelling bf poo while I can, before weaning starts for mini Alex! Grin

She's so funny, now she's rolling, there is just no stopping her - she keeps flipping over! I can't leave her alone on her playmat for a minute anymore! She needs to learn to roll back but I've got a feeling she'll be crawling early, she just seems raring to go! Shock

Alexandra6 · 31/03/2014 08:42

Oh and by the way, she's been finding it harder to get back to sleep after her two overnight feeds, it's taking an hour or more each time and I'm having to use a dummy to get her to drift off which I don't like doing as I'm not sure if she likes the dummy or not (I gently hold it in place for her to suck as it keeps coming out if not). Wonder if it could be just wind or four month regression/developmental? please let this be as bad as it gets!

Well done mini merk, so glad you got some sleep merk!!!

H slept 8-7 then went back down till 9, I am loving my currently sleepy child. Grin

I'm weaning H, basically because I wanted to see if it helped him sleep better, seems to be working! Also he is 20 weeks now and is more than ready. Formula poo and weaning poo are so far pretty similar so its not too bad. He loves his food which ia good, less keen on veg atm, can't blame him as it does taste quite boring, going to try butternut and sweet potato and see if he likes that more than broccoli and cauli.

alex I'm a mean mum, I found leaving H to struggle for a bit on his tum soon got him rolling back. Wink He now rolls all over the place, not fun when he tries it on the changing mat or in the bath though!

Merk hooray for a bit of decent sleep! I bet you are floating on air today Grin

Alex why don't you want to use a dummy? E is such a shit sleeper that I am of the school of thought that at 3am you get the little blighters back to sleep by whatever means necessary and a dummy is an absolute godsend! The second E starts sucking on the dummy or a nipple her eyes immediately go heavy. It's like a miracle! Grin E wasn't keen on a dummy at first so we used to dip it in gripe water to get her to suck it and then we stopped using the gripe water once we knew she would still suck the dummy without it. E uses the dummy to get to sleep and generally spits it out about 5 mins after she has gone to sleep.

If this is as bad as your sleep regression gets then you have come off brilliantly! Fingers crossed for you Smile
