Please give your baby's favourite foods so we can get some ideas from each other.
J loves oven toast (cut off crusts, cut into soldiers, bake for 15 minutes at 160, keeps for five days in an airtight container), Petits Filous (it's the sugar I expect) and he goes mad for strawberries.
J doesn't like egg or at least it doesn't like him.

Whatever she can get her hands on. But especially pear. Pear is the mutts nuts in chateau pig.
Fuck all at the moment. Even the milk is coming back.
DS2 goes crazy for banana. He also likes olives (!), scrambled egg, cucumber, cubes of cheese, houmous, oatcakes, buttered/peanut butter soldiers, naice ham, little bits of apple.....most things really so far.
Broccoli, sweet potato, courgette and baby corn are all popular finger foods here. Avocado also goes down well and he loves sucking on dried apricots. No purees of any description though.
Ooh LittleAbruzzenBear do you live in Abruzzo?
We've been struggling with weaning here...well, I have, I hate not feeling in control and it just seems to be such a struggle to find the right moment to give food! Either J is too hungry/not hungry enough/too sleepy/just not bothered
though to be fair that was cauliflower cheese and I think DP had a word in his ear about that one as he hates it
Favorites...umm, pear, apple or banana mixed with Greek yogurt...not doing so well on the savory side of things. Plus I feel like all the foods I offer are not v exciting
Must try to chill out about the whole thing!! Especially because the pediatrician keeps going on about how J needs to put on more weight and weaning is the way to do that. he is perfectly following the 50th centile for weight
off the top of the chart for length but I don't know if Italian babies are just short

Wallino - what is "boring" for us, eg. pureed pear, a stick of carrot, is a brand new experience for our babies - new taste, texture, smell. I keep having to remind dh that F isn't "missing out" by not having butter on her toast (for example) as for her, the sensation of eating dry toast is a wonderful thing. You only have to look at the myriad of faces they pull!
Ciao Wallino! We have a house in Abruzzo (we were meant to live out there, but it hasn't happened - long story) and go out there four time a year. Going in the school hols and cannot wait! Are you in Italy?
You've reminded me of the Italian foods I give DS2, olives aside, like gnocchi (he loves it!), ciabatta, courgette fritters, pasta in passata, homemade meatballs...
Just made some lentils with veg and minestrone soup! Protein starts here!
Bear I am indeed in Italy - a bit further north though in Emilia Romagna!
bplp You have made me feel slightly less inadequate! This weaning malarkey is a minefield! Maybe I should just break out the horse purée?

Wallino Emilia Romagna is beautiful you lucky thing and yes, technically anything below your region is Southern Italy, or certainly everything becomes 'piano piano'! I need to go to Bologna, the foodie capital!
What do Italian parents wean their bimbi on?
I have found that DS2 likes to have what we have to eat, or similar at least, and then he scoffs the lot. He is way more adventurous than DS1 was.
DD is not eating half as much as some ... Only breakfast every day so far
But she has tried cheese, cucumber, carrot, broccoli, sweet potato, strawberries, mango, banana, rusk and rice so far.
Here they start with grated fruit so I have found myself for the first time in my life grating a pear
and my nails
After that it's veg purees which the pediatrician recommended adding a drizzle of olive oil and some Parmesan to the I think pretty much anything goes!
Bologna isn't too far from me and yes the food is amazing what are the abruzzese specialties?
Donna we in theory have just started three meals a day but I think the amount actually ingested is equivalent to one!!
Early days weaning for us, but butternut and sweet potato have been most successful. I also suspect that finger foods are preferred to purée. Looking forward to finding out more...
Sweet potato, parsnip, cauliflower cheese with pasta, bread crusts, rusks, apple, pear and weetabix are all good here. Porridge is not, butternut is meh and fromage frais = exorcist vomit.
Little weed has sprouted, 13lb6. He's been asleep, in his cot, for 1h30 after a 10 minute feed.
We are also trying lentils tonight, i used Annabel Karmel's Lovely Lentils recipe from the website
with some substitutions because i cba to go to the shop

I have a
stupid question. When you give things like cucumber and courgette as finger food, do you take the skins off. I'm thinking, with skin it would be easier to hold but might be more of a choking hazard

Wallino I don't think I've ever had a bad meal in Abruzzo and it's easy to feed my DSs there. My favourite local dishes are the porchetta, amazingly tasty
and I could eat and eat and eat torte di lupo and the fresh fish is delicious. Pretty much all Italian food except Zabaglione <boak>. Interesting about the grated fruit. Our Italian friends say they have about 7-9 portions of fruit per day!!
Little gannet hoovered up his lentils, how did yours go down Pikz?
J is hit and miss with BLW, he'll eat anything in purée though, he eats Heinz baby biscotti biscuits like a champ though
He has tried broccoli, baby sweetcorn, bread/toast.
He grimaced at plain boiled pasta twirls today.
I try and mix t up, I give him wheatabix or porridge for breakfast, purée of some kind for lunch and then a finger food for dinner.
