I have just read this in the telegraph. I would be interested to know if anyone thinks this is reasonable?
On a similar subject- can anyone tell me what MEPs earn? What do they do that's of any use to anyone.

I bet they work more than 3 days and fairly long hours. TBH if you worked out the pro-rata day rate and said that the head of a quango earned £166k for a full week, not sure that anyone would raise any eye lid.

I wish I could do a 3 day week for that dosh level.

Are you not slightly uncomfortable at the fact that it is a high earning part-time worker that is attracting your attention though rather than a high earner per se?

Even if the head of the polling quango worked full-time, I would still be extremely uncomfortable. What does such a quango do which is of any value? I am open to explanation.

Now that's a different question. I have no idea!

I think the pay gap between the rich and poor is shocking, although this isn't as high as some. I think there is a very strong argument that nobody in receipt of public money should earn more than the Prime Minister, and I include people working for the BBC in that. Before people tell me I know the PM earns more than this person but plenty of people are paid a whole lot more than him.

The argument that we have to pay top money to get the best people is just nonsense to me and has just resulted in an arms race so we have all the same people we would have had on much much higher salaries.

Rant rant rant.... I could go on all day about this.

She is also shockingly incompetent.

I am more amenable to public servants getting fat salaries (like the millions Transport for London paid to Tim O'Toole) if they are actually any good at their job.

But it is plain from the crap that happened this week that she is rubbish at her job.

I am sad but not surprised that she hasn't resigned in shame yet.

who is this high earning pollster?

Not a pollster.

She is head of the Electoral Commission.

Her job is

  1. to oversee the redrawing of electoral boundaries between elections

  1. to ensure that elections are run fairly and properly

For that, she heads a quango costing over £20m a year, and personally costs £100k for working a 3 day week (I didn't know that before this thread).

On top of that, she is crap at her job, as the events this week, and all the postal voting shenanigans, demonstrate very persuasively.

"Head of polling quango earns £100,000 for 3 day week"

sounds like we got her on the cheap, compared to what the others earn

MEPs now earn about 91,000 euros, plus generous expenses for accommodation, travel and secretarial/staff help. I think they also get a daily attendance allowance as well.

So she runs an organisation with a £20m budget? Regardless of whether you think she does a good job or not, or whether the organisation does a good job or not, that's a very senior position with a lot of responsibility.
