That has the Lib Dems losing seats, and Labour losing hardly any.

What nonsense.

Personally, I always lie, or refuse to talk to anyone outside the polling station, so I never trust the exit polls

This exit poll is crap. Ignore it.

Please can someone tell me what exit poll means

Report
longfingernailspaintedblue · 06/05/2010 22:09

lollyheart

During the day a professional polling company stands outside 130 polling stations, asking every 10th voter or so how they voted.

The total sample is about 16000 I think.

yes.. but the exit pole seems to be consistent with the poles earlier in the week... conservatives in a minority gov with lib dems not getting as many seats as they hoped for after the 1st TV debate ...

but it is all a lot of guess until the final vote has been counted.

no exit poles at my poling station nor texts from David ... but I did get a personalisd letter from the lib dems

The sample is huge, but the sample of polling stations is tiny... what's the point of interviewing 17000 people if you're only going to do it from 130 polling stations?

A polling station could be really good or bad for a particular party even within a relatively balanced constituency, so how do they weight their choice of polling stations accurately? It can't take proper account of marginals at all. I reckon the most accurate poll was whatever that final one of the marginals was...
