Hoping for a hung parliament

For most of my life my vote didn?t count because I did not support the party which enjoyed most support in the places where I lived. Going to vote seemed a waste of time.

The current voting system turns too many people off politics, but u can?t have decent politics or a healthy democracy with only a small percentage of people taking an interest in it. That?s why I am hoping for a hung parliament, followed by a referendum on voting reform.

The Tory and Labour claims that proportional representation and hung parliaments lead to poor governments are simply wrong. They work just fine in most of Europe.

It was only Britain with its very strong government under Blair that blithely supported the American invasion of Iraq. Hung parliaments seem to make Prime ministers take a little more note of what people want, and MPs less sheepish and a bit more thoughtful.

And the strong British government was also no better than any other at ?putting an end to boom and bust?. It was nearly as responsible as the US Republicans under Bush for creating a doomed boom by making it exceptionally easy for bankers to gamble with our money. Labour believed just like the Tories that the market had to be left to do as it pleased. Germany, with years of hung parliaments, has done very much better. So vote for a hung parliament, please. Vote Lib Dem.
