What portion of £320m will you lose or gain?

The government’s new ‘fair funding’ formula looks set to remove £320m of funding from the most deprived local authorities:

www.theguardian.com/society/2020/jan/25/former-red-wall-areas-could-lose-millions-in-council-funding-review

As a result, comparatively thriving Home Counties will get quite a bit more.

I’m weary of raging against this government and their lack of ethics. I don’t understand how we have no effective opposition to this.

I’ve seen a thread from a NIMBY complaining about homeless people in her town, needing Tasering. Expect mental health issues to increase, resulting in more unemployment, resulting in more homelessness etc etc as a result of this kind of political decision.

I believe so passionately in the public sector and the need for it, but its very fabric is being destroyed.

What on earth can we do?

It's the Guardian - essentially the left-wings Daily Mail. If a conservative government announced council funding to double then the Guardian headline would be "too little, too late".

I don't think the fact that the op's link is to a Guardian article is relevant. The article is about an analysis commissioned by the Local Government Association so there is a good source backing it up. .

I think there's a depressing inevitably about the findings. Johnson needed the "red wall" of traditional Labour seats to get him into power. Now that he has the big majority that he wanted, he's going to dump them.

@cdtaylornats I linked to the article as the Guardian is the only paper who seems to think it’s newsworthy, which is quite shit in itself. The analysis is from a reputable source and is pretty trustworthy.

@1066vegan agree it was inevitable, but I must admit, I didn’t think it would be quite so soon or quite so blatant. The ramifications of this decision will be long lasting and devastating to so many thousands of families Sad

You reap what you sow. What have the Tories ever done for working class people or the north? Its the sad delusion that brexit is going to bring prosperity to the north.

Somebody very recently said 'The working class spoke and conservatism answered'; an interesting 'take'.

I tend to think the same folks who were taken in by the Leave lies have been taken in by Tory bribes.

Their 'lent' votes have been swiftly discarded, haven't they?

Though I loathe him, Cumshot is good.
