Do Tory voters want permanent Tory government?

After the election result I wonder. Do they want permanent Tory government where the only job of the opposition is to lose? Do they want a parliament where there is a centre ground opposition to a right wing Tory government? Maybe they want no opposition at all. Genuine question.

I don't want a Labour wrecking government or a wishy-washy do-nothing Liberal one.

If some party comes up with a reasonable alternative then it is worth considering.

While SNP voters continue to support the spawn of satan I can only vote tactically to try to keep them out.

For the past few years I've generally gone for the party I hate the least.

I'd like a centre-Left Labour Party to keep the Conservatives on their toes. I prefer a one-nation Conservative brand to the Thatcherite market forces brand - I'd rather have less inequality than more.

I genuinely think Labour is a passport to utter disaster. Too much compassion, too little common sense. Good public services cost extraordinarily vast sums of money. My weekly dose of 'Question Time' confirms my suspicion that those on the Left are absolutely amazing at writing cheques but not so hot on where all the money comes from. The most vocal 'Kill the Rich' Leftists would find they ran out of money pdq.

No. It will become corrupt when it ‘s been in government too long and becomes too stale and complacent. The threat of losing power should keep them in check.

Sometimes you need a leftist government to redress the balance.
I think some people need to live through a leftist government to appreciate the realities vs the ideology.

All governments have the threat of losing power. The five year parliament act might be repealed so we could have more elections.

Of course a political party wants to stay in power. That’s why they exist. To have political power. They can reinvent themselves and to some extend Johnson has done that. So the aim is another 10 years. Of course it is!

Labour reinvented and were in power for 13 years. They need to revert to a sensible party without the excesses, the far left control of the state policies and get back to ones that can actually be afforded. Even when Labour spent £££££ no one noticed. All those new schools, minimum wage, in work benefits and other policies are now forgotten about and people say they need Brexit to improve their lives. They don’t but there’s no pleasing some people.

As a Tory voter of course I would prefer Corbyn and Momentum to drag us into a communist state and financially destroy the country for many years - who wouldn't?

Would be nice to have an electable opposition so we can at least have the choice.

But we haven't really had a Tory government since Thatcher. Since 2010 the first 5 years was a coalition, dealing with the Labour crash. Then we had the stalemate Brexit government.

I am looking forward to seeing what a Tory government actually looks like. If it gets stale, in ten years, we can maybe vote for a New Labour government, if it exists.

The last 9 years haven't been enough?

I'm coming at this from the other side as I'm a Labour supporter. I think a strong opposition is important for democracy, Labour has needed to be that for the last nine years and needs to sort itself out.

If positions were reversed I'd be saying the same about the Tories.

I strongly believe (and have for a long time) that we need PR. Personally I think more coalitions and a less adversarial system would be a good thing.

We have become an ever more divided nation and this government is not going to heal that divide if it carries on as it is.

But still, we have had a Tory government for nine years. The Lib Dems just restrained them a little, and it wasn't a 'Labour crash' it was a global crash and it appears that the rest of the world has a more positive view of Gordon Brown than the UK does.

As for Brexit, it was their mess to deal with. They carried on with rolling out UC etc. so it's not like they've done nothing else (might have been better if they had?).

A coalition is not a Tory government. Obviously it is LibDem propaganda to say they weren't involved and were only trying to 'restrain' Cameron. Nonsense, both parties got some of what they wanted, it was mutual agreement/benefit. No one forced Clegg etc to vote for tuition fees.

it wasn't a 'Labour crash' it was a global crash Well trodden labour excuses to deflect that Blair/Brown had spent and borrowed so much money that when the crash came we had nothing to fall back on. And as usual The Tories had to pick up the pieces.

Obviously that is anti-Tory propaganda. Other more sensible people would say it was a democratic event agreed upon by 17.4 million people.

Fortunately a lot of people agree with me, its time to GBD and see what a proper majority Conservative government can do over the next ten years, unencumbered by intransigent remainer MPs pretending they want to respect the outcome of the referendum.

And as I said if it doesn't work out and we get a proper opposition, in ten years I might reconsider my vote.

Once Brexit is over, I think most people want a more centre left to actually be able to compete with the conservatives.
