Question about the possible General Election

Why is all the talk of a General Election mentioning 14th or 15th October as possible dates, when the UK holds it’s General Elections on Thursdays?
Why is the date being mentioned not the 17th October?

The Prime Minister can change the date of an election so the bill is for an election after the 14th of October.

The European Council are meeting on 17th October so if there is a deal to be had, it needs to be presented then.

Parliament is dissolved 25 working days before a GE for campaigning and organisation. If he wanted an election on 10th October parliament would have had to have been dissolved today.
