It looks like Boris will waltz in to No.10
I'm not living in the UK but it will have an impact on me as I live in Ireland ( because of the border and if the UK leaves Europe how the supply of goods to Ireland and vice versa will be taxed, value of imports, value of exports etc).
What has he said about Northern Ireland, the border etc ?
Was he a Remainer and then became a Brexiteer ?
Thank you

Boris has four weeks to be careful what he says. I was looking at the different aims BJ and JH have, and to be honest JH won it for me. Others may think the same way.

I hope he's better informed than Rachel Johnson who, I think, thought Ireland was part of the UK.
He'll need to be because the border issue with Northern Ireland is crucial.
I'm afraid he'll have the typical Tory toff view that Ireland is a backward country filled with peasants. Sad

The only reason the border with Ireland is critical is the EU making it so.

Cdtaylor can you expand on that?

@cdtaylornats, why, what way would you deal with the border?

I would revert to pre-EEC status. If the EU want a border let them impose it and force Ireland to break the Good Friday agreement.

So you would force Ireland to leave the EU? Or what are you suggesting.

I don't think the Irish would be terribly keen on that :/

Borders work two ways, cdtaylornats. I hope people on the island of Britain won't mind movement of people into the country from Ireland in your solution.

It's free movement from Ireland at the moment and we always had less strict rules anyway

So I don't think that's an issue at all.

Also when British people talk about controlling our borders they aren't thinking about Northern europeans

Maybe Boris won't waltz into No. 10 ( see my first post on this thread) Smile

Nothing to stop non Northern Europeans entering Ireland and strolling across an uncontrolled border into the UK if the UK chooses not to control their side.

Northern Europeans can currently enter Ireland, and the UK including Northern Ireland, as we are in the EU.

So, no change.

This seems to be a call for a hard border between ni and Ireland.

The other poster wanted Ireland to leave the EU because it makes things easier for the UK (!).

Peculiar ideas.

I would like to think the Tory members have too much sense to vote for such an incompetent, chaotic, lying individual. However as I see the interviews on tv of so many saying they don’t mind his faults I want to scream with horror. He doesn’t bear scrutiny and that is why he is keeping quiet and it’s not about just his private life it is about his ability to take on the job which will affect all our lives. His errors of judgement as Foreign Secretary and Mayor of London are well documented for those who wish to stop and consider rather than be carried along by the so called personality and obviously crafted by Johnson.
As for those who describe him as soooo intelligent...well I give up.

ApileofBallyhoo - we had free movement between Britain and Ireland long before the EU.

To be honest i don't want Boris to be PM i don't think he will give a damm about ordinary working people, and i don't really care either what will happen in NI once were out of the EU, roll on the next general election

cdtaylornats what's your point? Mine is that there is nothing to stop non Europeans entering any part of the EU and then the UK if the UK chooses not to control its border with Ireland.
