Is David Lammy right?

Personally, I find him the worst kind of MP, a grandstanding idiot, but opinion on the Marr interview seems to have genuinely split opinion.
No matter what you think of the erg they aren't comparable to nazi's. Rees Mogg retweeted a member of the AfD (a democratically-elected party) commenting on Brexit and the EU. I find it sinister that Lammy seems to believe that only parties he approves of should have airspace.
Of course parties should be called out on racism and anti-semitic but this to me is the typical Left Wing response that everybody who disagrees with me is a nazi

Good way to deflect from Labours problems with antisemitism

Didn't the leader of the AfD call for refugees to be shot? I'd say David Lammy was spot on.

But the speech by the AfD politician that Jacob Rees Mogg was about Brexit and the EU. And the AfD are an elected party. Is ignoring them sensible?

Well thank fuck Hitler wasn’t democratically elected either or we wouldn’t be able to criticise him either.

And thank god Hitler wasn’t democratically elected, meaning we could all ignore him completely. God knows what would have happened otherwise!

I think we are blindly moving towards a much more right learning country than lots of us would actually be happy with. Not the Torys so much but certainly the cult of Tommy Robinson & his ilk is very worrying

Yes, he was absolutely right to call it out. JRM was indulging in classic dog-whistling to get the far right on board and the 'clarification' did nothing to lessen the signal.

“Personally, I find him the worst kind of MP, a grandstanding idiot”

What do you mean by “grandstanding”?

What I understand Lammy to be saying is, in essence, that it's right to judge people by the company they keep.

The ERG and the other right-of-centre Tories think they are playing a blinder riding a wave of populist fervour which they can put back in its box when they've achieved whatever short term objective they're aiming at. "Thank you, people, we don't need you now. Go back to watching Strictly and being beastly to your children..."

They're wrong. They're unleashing a fucking monster.
