Uk media left bias

Does anyone think the media in uk is all far too much to the left? No documentries on any scandles or bad politics from hillery or obama but channel4 especially non stop anti trump documentries. The media telling half the voting population they were wrong for voting brexit? Brexiteers know about immigration and nothing else it would appear? Can anyone name any right wing satire or programme other then top gear? I feel i live in a country where to have leftiest views is ‘safe’ to have right wing views and you are held with contempt. I would bend over backwards to help somebody vote for a party i cant stand. But i dont feel many on the left would do the same for us of a sometimes right wing persuasion. Any thoughts?

Read the Daily Mail, you'll love it!

Plenty of right wing news sources - try fox/sky.

publicly funded BBC and channel4 have a constitutional duty to be centrist and present different ends of the political spectrum equally. People who are a bit dense at both ends of the spectrum perceive that central path as bias.

Are you actually joking? How much further right do you want to get?

Fox and daily mail yes
Not sure about sky
Bbc n channel 4 have a duty but my opnion is they are left bias strongly and nearly all comedy is. People have opnions on how they percieve things, its not a question of being dense. Its a question of trying to have a polite civilised discussion about something. Can politely agree or disagree.

Got to be a wind up. The Mail, Star, Sun, Express, Telegraph, Times - all have a right-wing bias. It's only when you see something more impartial like the FT, or channel 4 do you realise how much of the media follows a right-wing agenda.

Oh and I can give you a list of right wing propaganda shows such as:

Saint or Scrounger
Benefits Britain
Basically anything with Benefits in the title for starters.

Top gear isn’t right wing is it? Confused

I’m not sure you know what satire is actually. HIGNFY is scathing about all political shenanigans

Thats why i ask the question because its interesting how people percieve the media. The sun and star i class as tripe and have no interest. Telegraph i think is centre or slightly right, ft impartial, but it surprises me how many people think of channel 4 as being impartial. Every month is an anti trump documentry, nothing about clinton scandles or criticsm of obamas handling of syria/ putin etc. And im still curious to know if people think political satire is impartial? Its interesting peoples perceptions though, thanks for feedback

And im still curious to know if people think political satire is impartial?

Political satire is always going to be aimed at those in power, at the moment we have a right-wing government, so hardly surprising they will be the butt of the comedy?

Just because you dont like the sun or star diesnt mean that you cant include them on a list of right wing media

And i don't understand why there would be documentaries on a failed presidential candidate

I know what political satire is but i feel it was still anti tory even when labour was in power plus satire doesnt have to be aimed only at the government,it can be politics in general, there has been for many years now almost no right wing comics on tv. Clinton and obama are still a force in american politics and there was anti trump documentries while they were both candidates. You absoloutly can have sun and star in your list, im just saying in my opnion they are neither left or right. Just shite and very uninformative

You do realise that objectively speaking, Trump is 1000% times worse than the Clintons or Obama? And that maybe the criticisms from experts and academics on Brexit are based in fact?

Report
Ifailed · 03/11/2017 09:38

almost no right wing comics on tv
There are very few out there, apart from the likes of Roy Chubby Brown, and I can't see his material being broadcast. Mother-in-law jokes, comments about darkies and how women can't park are somewhat passé, not sure many people would want to watch it on telly.

Nearly half the votes counted begged to differ- im no trump fan but clinton n obama are no saints. There are many reasons why trump came into power- far more then the simplistic “ because white men were angry” argument. USA voted obama over an old republican white guy who was a war hero. The race argument just doesnt addup.
Also expert and academic opnion is subjective- some stuff on brexit is fact but id argue mostly opnion, subjective and guessing. People voted according to their individual experience of globalisation- so called experts in fairness cant tell the public about their life experiences.
Also to ask the question again, how many right wing tv personalities are there? Non of 8 out of ten cats, russelhoward isnt, brand isnt. I think its very disproportional but interested to hear others observations.

Living abroad I am constantly aware of how right wing the UK press is, compared to a lot of European continental press. Even the Guardian is more centrist than left wing.

OP are you from the US? I would imagine so from your fixation with Hillary and Obama. The US press is shockingly conservative compared to our enlightened European values so I can see why you might see a "left wing" bias, but believe me, it's really not there.

Whilst I don't really agree with the premise of the OP (I like the BBC and think it does a pretty good job) I do find the thought that Channel 4 news is unbiased hilarious.

Also the point about political satire I notice is that right wing politicians are lambasted for being right wing and left wing politicians are lambasted for being right wing...or not left wing ENOUGH

I think the right can cope though.

Sorry

I got confused

I thought it was an 'any opinions what do you think' type thread

Not an 'i think this and everyone else is wrong type' thread

Media reporting seems pretty even to me

Umm yes i do know what political satire is. It is aimed at politics in general rather then just the party in power. I dont think thats a far fetched definition.

And the old republican white guy chose a fruit loop as VP. I think that was the final nail for his bid.

In any case, why should the people choose the old republican white guy? Black guy no good? White/black/brown woman no good either? Are Democrats replicants?

Are you a Republican white guy? I really don't see why one should pick a) a guy, b) why he needs to be white and c) a republican. You've got one now and the US has become a laughing stock!

Lol thanks guys
Its all opnions on here, i dont think people are wrong for disagreeing with me- i cant stand that type of arrogence in people. Just simply seeing what peoples thoughts are compared to mine and how we see things- i try to avoid being rude or agressive or belittle someone for having a different view. But all political discussions get heated quickly- its hard lol :)

OP, I'd be interested to see which right-wing comedians you'd like to see on UK TV?

Report
Usernameaintit · 03/11/2017 10:00

Sorry melassa i wasnt clear. Im not advocating mcain should have been voted in for those reasons- im arguing the complete opposite. My opnion was the media implies trump got in because he was an old right wing guy and nothing more. My point is if the reasons were that simple for the USA obama would never have been elected in the first place.
