Are you watching news night? I was waiting for him to drop an 'Our kid' Grin

Off topic but in the face of what's happened this week I'm glad he was elected mayor.

He is Northern though? Hmm

I think he sounds like Andy Burnham.

He sounds way more northern than I remember.

I think he sounds the same way as he always does, I think a lot of people are finding the Northern voices in the media this week quite taxing for some reason.
Not aimed at the OP btw but I'm seeing a lot of "I can't understand people from Manchester", "these people need subtitles", "who knew there was a Selfridges in Manchester" shite on Twitter (not people I follow).

Ffs - we northerners have to get used to interpreting the southern accent all the time!

Nothing against a northern accent i hanger had none darn sarf for the last 16 years. He does appear to nd the best man for the job this week but doesn't sound like he used too that's all really.

He seems to really be what Manchester needs this week

I always thought he was Scouse, but I don't do west coast very well.

Report
noenemee · 25/05/2017 23:37

He is a Scouser, raised in Cheshire though.

He was brought up in Warrington I believe and MP for Leigh which is nearby.

His years at Cambridge uni knocked his accent out a bit apparently he adopted a posher accent then but he's going full on Northern now, good career move.

OK, so I'm not quite as bad at accents as I thought. I can distinguish mackem from Geordies both north and south of the Tyne, like. (but then again, Mackems born south of the Wear sound more like Poolians than Geordie, anyhow.)

Report
PickAChew · 25/05/2017 23:53

(actually, probably all born south of the Wear, like DS1, but whatevs)

Boredbeforeievenbegan · 25/05/2017 23:54

It's odd to me that people even think he has an accent. I'm such a Northern soul Grin

Report
StorminaBcup · 26/05/2017 03:46

safe Grin

Really Keira? If they're impressed with Selfridges I wonder what they'll think when they find out Harvey Nichols!

I think Andy usually has a bit of a scouse twang but he's definitely sounded more manc this week.

Argeles · 26/05/2017 08:54

I don't know if he sounds more Northern, but he's looking hotter than ever. Ooh, I so would.

UnGoogleable · 27/05/2017 12:45

I came on here to say...

I would.

And also, I think if he was the leader of the Labour party right now, he'd be on his way to being PM. The British people are nothing if not shallow, and that man could hold his own on the 'hot leader' table alongside Justin Trudeau and Macron.
