Gina Miller has started a GoFundMe campaign to gather funds to support MPs who campaign for another vote on Brexit, and to campaign to promote tactical voting in the General Election.

She wants to ensure the the deal we get is a good one; I don't see what is wrong with this? The electorate were not consulated about how Brexit would break down so i think it's good for the process to scrutinised as much as possible.

Yeah, Gina Miller won't be personally instructing people so you're fine there.

Getting out the idea of tactical voting is a good idea. Unless people have A Belief in a party and therefore everything they do is good and needs no thought or manifesto reading then all voting is compromise anyway.

Or she could actually campaign to get the many thousands of people who don't bother voting to cast a vote, and leave those who do vote to do so for whoever they want.

I don't need telling what to do, I have my own mind and my own opinions, target those who can't be arsed.

The donations themselves are small anon, yes.
Well that particular gofundme is asking for donations up £500. many of them are as little as £10. Those are small donations!
Branson himself has donated £25,000 - which is a lot of money to me, but as political donations go is small.

Will be interesting to see who GM gives money to and if its spread across the political spectrum or if its just focused on Remainers. I imagine it will just be Lib Dem pro EU.

Who will these MPs be beholden to if hey get elected, GM or their party? Seems there is room for a lot of conflict of interest.

We are talking about a total of £350,000 Anon, spread across a number of constituencies.
Large donations are often given to political parties and individual candidates, across the political spectrum. These donations are for the campaigns, and must all be accounted for when campaign spending is reported - its not personal spending money for the candidates.
Over a certain amount they are supposed to be declared and there are rules on who is allowed to donate, but there are also ways to get around the regulations.
A share of £350,000 is nothing compared to the size of many of the donations, from both organistions and private individuals. So if you are worried about "conflict of interest" from what will probably be at most tens of thousands towards a campaign, you would be worried about most MPs.

Personnally, I don't feel that transparantly given electoral donations do present that much of a conflict of interest to MPs. Campaigns cost money to run (even printing leaflets etc costs), and I don't want to live in a country where only the rich can afford to run for office.
I would be worried by politicians receiving large personal donations through the back door though - eg, money shifted around through a network of offshore shell companies until you don't know where it comes from, or politicians being overpayed for services/property as a way to disguise a donation.

if there is a hard Brexit , like TM seems to be going for, the Treasury thinks that on average our living standards will drop seven percent. That is an awful lot and many people will be made bankrupt, public services will shrinks a lot, the health service will get a lot worse, especially with all the EU doctors and nurses leaving. I think,we parliament should have a chance to think it over rather than TM just dictating what she and the hard Brexiters want. So I am supporting Gina Miller.

I donated £100 to her campaign. I respect her for fighting to do the best for the economy particularly given all the horrible online abuse she gets.
