Trump's World War - Impeachment likely due to CIA or Business links?

Who would elect such a reckless individual? My teenager is finding it hard to sleep as they think a nuclear war will soon end all time?
They are really worried about the future since the Americans have upset most of the world by electing Trump?

They are spending huge amounts of time blogging and trolling the news headlines? How do I deal with this as it is leading to school absences and poor sleep?

I was going to answer your thread title with 'here's hoping', but your post is more about your sons reactions rather than Trump's fate.
He needs a sense of proportion- humans have always lived through 'events' some scary and some only understandable in retrospect. Is he politically engaged? Encourage him to read a broadsheet, join a political party and for every 'buzz feed panic' he has refuse to discuss it until he can find a counter source from a reputable source.

' How do I deal with this?'

Ban them from reading the Guardian and listening to the BBC

'until he can find a counter source from a reputable source.'

Exactly what I was saying. Remove the Guardian and put some Katie Hopkins articles in front of him.

As if that would make the world all sweet and fine. They did not make this situation. Not a fan of their reporting but that's not the issue.
How old is your son? I think one way of dealing is by acting. Fear thrives on a sense of disconnection and powerlessness. Maybe he can connect through a political or environmental cause? Action group or charity?
And no news after dinner, some rules about time spent online if he's so upset.
I was just remembering yesterday that I haven't been this worried since I was a teenager myself.

Please tell him that this fear is nothing new. We were scared witless, when teenagers, by the 'imminent nuclear war with Russia' films, global warming films and all the rest of it in RE lessons (?). Totally irresponsible spinning of impressionable minds. Seriously, do tell him that it happens to every generation depending on who the lobbyists are - we'll be ok. As others have said, it may spur him on to become politically active.

claig, you told us elsewhere that "I only post on my own threads now". What happened to that?

Get him to read Milo Yiannopoulos instead. Far better than the guardian. There will be no nuclear war due to the inevitability of MAD

Kaija · 13/12/2016 18:23

Ah, Milo of "Feminism is Cancer".

You would have to be a long way up the sociopath scale to recommend him to your teenage son.

Hmm

Yeah because she is SOOOO reliable isn't she.

People tend not to like him because he is gay. No liberal will admit that though

Btw he is right about feminism

Report
Kaija · 13/12/2016 18:36

Why do you think people don't like him because he's gay, missswatch? That's just bizarre.

But if you think feminism is cancer you've obviously got a few more bizarre opinions where that one came from so perhaps not altogether surprising.

I remember being at school at that age, we were all terrified because Ronald Reagan had been voted in. He was considered to be unsuitable because he had been an actor, and a loose cannon. I was terrified he would trigger a nuclear war.

Turns out he was rather a good President in the end.

The hysterical negative press reporting doesn't help at the moment.

Missswatch · 13/12/2016 18:41

Because it is true Kaija. Some SJW's, feminists etc are actually quite racist, sexist, bigoted, intolerant, and homophobic despite preaching how tolerant, progressive and accepting they are

Kaija · 13/12/2016 18:42

Some? So you've concluded from this that feminism is cancer?

Ok mismatch. But "feminism is cancer" is a pretty insane position.

I would argue this but instead i'll bow out. Can't risk offending anyone and getting banned. Have seen it happen before

Yes it seems 1 counter source for every 5 news headlines about Trump. Also many counter sources are weirdly vague, under explained and short articles. It would be ok if it were only the Guardian / BBC, but the news each day worldwide is becoming outrageous from China to the Australian press, all warning various issues some of which I don't understand.

Is global warming really going to become a threat overnight ?

And then there is Youtube?

Trump seems to offend some unexpected personalities look at this by Robert De Niro?

What ca you say to an impressionable teenager who's passionate about worldwide topics

'Is global warming really going to become a threat overnight ?'

Not at all. Trump will probably end the scam which is why all the elites worldwide are so scared.

The problem is that your teenager seems to have been listening to the mainstream media. Trump rightly called them "a room full of liars". Trump knows what is going on and he is onto the crooks and cheats who have been deceiving the people for years. I would advise your teenager to stop reading the Guardian and learn what is really going on in the world by reading non-mainstream media sources and watching youtube.

"What can you say to an impressionable teenager who's passionate about worldwide topics"

I would say listen to what Trump called the media - "a room full of liars" - and try not to be impressionable and be conned by them.
