Slight diversion (sorry, just musing) - does anyone else feel its sort of off the way Hillary is so often described as "squealing" or "screeching"? For all her faults she's always come off as very composed to me. Is it because she has a high voice?

No, it's because she has a female voice. It demonstrates that Trump's victory is having the effect of making misogyny appear acceptable to his more challenged and/or misogynistic supporters.

Yes Deepan, that is what I suspected. It is quite a hard thing to call someone out on though as it's not overt. Apparently it's quite common for female politicians (Margaret Thatcher had voice coaching) to lower their voice so that they're not accused of being "shrill" or "screechy", so it's nothing new. Sad

I think there is an animus by some posters towards other posters that leads to exaggerations and nasty slurs etc and a nitpicking dissection of language etc. If we can keep it impersonal and based on politics and events, it makes the threads more fun to read.

"squealing" is just a term used for someone who loses and is caught out and complains and wails about unfairness etc

Here is an anrticle written by a woman in the New York Daily News about Trump "squealing"

"In his latest testosterone-induced psychosis, Trump squealed in horror at Hillary Clinton’s long bathroom break during Saturday’s ABC News debate"

Yes, because Trump does squeal. Hillary is just speaking with her normal tone of voice.

Silly me I wasn't clear. The losers were crying when Hillary lost now they are grasping at straws. First protests, then a recount now that hacker 4chan. The losing side get triggered when things don't go their way

I really don't see your point. It's normal that people who have been involved in difficult campaigns to be sad. Some even cry.

Football fans cry.

I've just never noticed Hillary "squeal" myself, it seemed an inaccurate, lazy description and (at the risk of sounding pompous) I've always felt that language is important - it tells you a lot about the person using it.
That article you linked backed up my point nicely though, thanks.

The other point I tried to make was that a recount which upholds the original result isn't a failure and shouldn't be seen as such by either side - transparency and accuracy should be welcomed by everyone. That's why I was surprised that Trump took it so personally.
In the same way it is shocking that Trump is so against an investigation into potential Russian interference - I would have thought he'd welcome the opportunity to dismiss the "conspiracy theories". Publicly attacking the very organisation he will depend upon as president for intelligence, just because he doesn't like what they say, is further evidence of his thin skinned pettiness.

Trump confirms Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. Great choice and Trump fans can breathe easy now that Mutt Romney, Establishmentarian With Honours, was not chosen by Trump and appears to have been played like a kipper by Trump and Trump fans

And the winning just seems to be going on as Trump may pick Rick Perry for Energy. I am not a fan of Rick, who as most of the other uselss Republicans was yet another Establishmentarian who was against Trump, but I have been mightily cheered up by what I have read about his positions on the elite's scam of manmade climate change. I can forgive Perry for his disgraceful Establishment behaviour vis-a-vis Trump because of Perry's common sense position on climate.

"Trump Expected to Name Rick Perry as Energy Secretary
...
As governor, Perry championed the oil industry, questioning science that shows that greenhouse gas emissions contribute to climate change and deriding what he called "the secular carbon cult."

At a presidential town hall in 2011, he said, "I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their projects."

Elites across the world totally defeated, political correctness dead, Trump has finished it and the icing on the cake is that Trump says that "we will all be saying Merry Christmas again".

It doesn't get any better than this. Elites are triggered and in a safe space in Davos at a loss to understand how their teams failed to spin the people. Their puppets have lost their moorings and are drifting out to sea.

The people's revolution continues.

Yup, expect to see Exxon drilling in the Russian arctic soon. A victory for the common man! (If that common man is either a member of the super rich or the CEO of a huge corporation).

Drilling can be good for jobs when it's well regulated, and when the health and safety of employees is protected and the environmental risks reduced. Not so much when the people in charge are desperate to roll back regulations and cut corners.

Interesting thought but I'm not one for conspiracy theories
