Just read this and it really hits the nail on the head. And I am "blue" fwiw...

I whacked this on my watch list cos I had to go to work and didn't want to lose it.

I think if there were more discussion under this thread, and maybe a little less participation in those where Trump voters are being drawn in a rather more 2D, non fleshed out fashion, we might be able to take one step closer to warding off the possibility of Le Pen making it a hat trick.

But there you go. This one lies empty.

Watching with interest.

Wow.

This is what many people have been trying to articulate to the vocal, shut-down-conversation types.

Really good article.

This is worth a watch too.
Serial ranter Jonathan Pie, ranting about why the left have to look to themselves for why Trump got elected:

This is interesting. It's helped me to conceptualise the back of mind unclear thoughts I'd been having about how I've also found myself in a comfortable place and the people who are voting brexit and trump do not have the level of comfort I have. The divide is never going to be 100% of city folk vote one way and 100% rural folk vote the other, but this has helped me to begin to make more sense of it.

Thanks for sharing this op.

And a little bump for the late crowd. It is an interesting article and I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on this thread.

I'm not sure if articles of this bent will be just a trickle that dries up almost as soon as it begins, or indicates a trickle that will become a steady drip drip drip...but I'll add this one that I just saw..

Thanks for article OP. I think it's hard to get your head around the massive-ness of the US (why am I not a writer?!). If you think of villages here and how isolated they can feel, it must be a hell of a lot more in America.

Thank you for sharing!
It all makes sense, in Poland also ultra right party won on the back of similar discontent.
There will be other countries which surprise us too. Unless of course the elite will wake up.

I have been asking on few occasions what the left did for women and the working class in Europe. No answer, no headspace to reflect on it. It's bloody frustrating!
Women are waking up. Who knows what will happen if the working and the under class decides to reclaim their streets.

I don't think many people have commented as it's self evidently good. :)

For another, purely cultural take..

Very interesting - and depressing. From this perspective it makes a lot of sense. I really hope that vile man does fix their country for them, it must be in dire need of it.

Interesting article OP.

I would like anyone who can spare the time to read this. Unfortunately, it is depressing reading but necessary I feel.

Somehow we are going to have to build bridges, god knows how.

I would like claig (No. 1 fan of DT on MN) to read this but his thread has finished and no idea if he will look on here.

Ha! Just posted this article on another thread. It's a perspective I hadn't considered before and I think it's worth sharing.

Roussette, I am not a he.

I will start a new thread on Trump and put that article in it. I didn't bother starting a new thread, because nearly everything that could be said has already been said, but I suppose not really, because now it will be about what he is going to do.

Roussette · 12/11/2016 08:30

Sorry... claig... should read her thread..

It was honestly a typographical error... I was multi tasking with eyes half shut!

What are your thoughts on the article... curious Smile

My DC1 sent it to me last night. (as an aside ... it must be really hard if your grown up kids have different political views to you. Luckily all my lot and me are singing from the same hymn sheet!)

Roussette I shared that article with a few people and one of them who does not live in the U.K. pointed out that it completely ignores all the wars that have been raging on at Western intervention.

She said that it's almost funny to see us all panic because we think the apocalypse is nigh (I have been guilty of this) whilst ignoring the fact that people are really experiencing war in horrific ways, and a lot of that has been inflicted by us.

It certainly gave me pause for thought (although I am devastated that someone who so clearly hates women, disabled people and Jon whites - 2 out of 3 which apply to me - has been appointed to the role of leader of the free world).

Mickle and yes that person is totally right. But I suppose 'we' are just looking at what might happen and not what is happening, which isn't right. I just think a lot of us are in complete shock. I do hope DT gets some good people around him. He is just one man after all
