Would you be happy for the UK to stay in the EEC? Good compromise?

If the UK managed to negotiate a deal whereby we leave the EU but are allowed to pay in to be in the EEC, would you be ok with it? I was wondering if you'd feel it's in the best interest of the UK and keep you happy whether you voted 'remain' or 'leave' ( talking about those who made an informed decision, not the xenophobes who prolly wouldn't be happy with that at all).

Do you think the EU will let the UK negotiate such a deal or might there be an element of 'punishing' us to deter other member states from leaving?

I think you mean European Economic Area not EEC. EEC became the EU. Anyway in theory a good idea but Brussels are saying they would not be too encouraging about it, not to punish us per se but to deter other countries wanting to do the same thing.

Yes I would but I don't think we can realistically agree to that and then just tell everyone sorry immigration won't change. There would be riots.

I would be happy to leave on that basis - and I suspect it will be on that basis, ultimately.

I think a fair few leave voters will be angry considering how much of the campaign was around immigration and 'taking back control'.

I think hope that good trade agreements are in everyone's interest so don't think it will be impossible.

It wouldn't necessarily mean free individual movement though darcey, that's what the negotiations are for.
It could be free worker movement.

If we went for the 'Norway option' ie in the European economic area as the OP is asking, then as I understand it we would have free movement of people. So I don't think we can have that, we have to have another arrangement. What you are suggesting may or may not be possible, no one knows, and I really hope to god we can get what we want, but that wouldn't be possible if we were in the EEA.

ClashCityRocker, don't you think though that, yes, a number of people voted out largely on the immigration issue (an argument for leaving completely) but then 48% wanted to stay (prolly a greater number than the immigration leave voters)...

Ah sorry, yes I agree. I voted remain myself, but would have possibly voted leave if eea membership and free movement was guaranteed (an impossible scenario, I think, but nontheless).

I do not think we will get what we want. We will become like Jersey or
Guernsey that is my guess. The problem is we have exited without any
plan . Leave ie UKIP only really have one policy -immigration .
With all the trouble with Isis etc and the unsettled conditions all over the world (Thailand is having the same problem with migrants) it was madness to call for a Referendum this year.

I think it will depend on how the cards are played. But right now we don't have a strong leader who will do what is necessary

I think the EEA would be a good compromise but there will be a HUGE outcry about immigration. Of course we'd lose our veto's but after recent events I don't think we deserve them anymore.

Maybe the solution would be that we get a second referendum on what the govt should push for:

1. EEA membership like Norway
   
2. Fully leave and trade under WTO rules
   
3. Remain in the EU
   
   But once we invoke Article 50 we pretty much have zero influence anymore and realistically it's not really up to us.

We probably will. I can't see many options. And it will cause huge problems. We'd be going from having full rights in the EU, with a voice in the EU, to having to do what we're told with no say whatsoever. Exactly the position the leavers claimed we were in already.
