Ed Milliband and breastfeeding

I know its a matter of personal choice etc but should Ed Milliband really be going on the news from a Dudley Tesco publicising the fact that his new baby takes formula rather than breastmilk?Hmm Shouldn't he now be doing valuable work promoting 'breast is best'?

Oh leave the guy alone, he doesn't breastfeed, it's his wife, and do any of us know if she does breastfeed sometimes/can't breastfeed etc etc?

He may be a politician but he's also human not a political robot.

Leave his partner/baby out of the political posturing, please.

why... he isn't leaving the baby out, so why should no-one comment?

What did he actually say...?

The only person he should be "promoting breast is best" to, if anybody,is his wife.

And I do hope he didn't mention the baby wears disposables!

It is nothing to do with anyone else.

Would you like someone commenting on your parenting choices?

FFS ..threads like these do more harm than good for breastfeeding imo

Gosh, does he breastfeed? That is progressive!

Preggersplayspop · 25/11/2010 21:57

I doubt he was promoting either, but may have been asked the question? Is there a link? If I was his partner I wouldn't be too excited about him talking about it regardless of how I fed my baby. Or any other parenting choices for that matter.

why shouldn't he.......

Quite - and I say that as someone who practiced extended breastfeeding with all my 3.

Breastfeeding is great - but it's got to be personal choice. And not everyone can anyway. It's ridiculous to blame someone for not breastfeeding.

Ed Miliband has boobies?

Goodness. Now that IS news.

Reminds me of the similar thread about David Cameron. I wonder if a bottle-feeding Tory is more or less offensive than a bottle-feeding leftie. We'll have to compare thread lengths...

Anyway, presumably it is not really up to either man how their baby is fed. Unless there is some way they can get their moobs to lactate...

I think he made a flip comment as he walked past a display of formular.

I couldn't hear what as dd was talking at me.

no-one is blaming anyone for not breastfeeding

If you're talking about the clip which was just on the BBC News at 10, then he didn't seem to say that his child is or isn't FF - he walked past the formula section in Tescos, said something trivial about it, the Tesco shop assistant said something like "you'll know all about that now, you're the expert" and he said "oooh, I don't know about that".

Not sure whether this is evidence that he is pro / anti BF or pro / anti FF or anything really, apart from a minor bit of chit chat with the Tesco staff member.

It was unwise to be filmed by BBC in conjunction with an identifiable brand of formula (it's just been on the News at 10).

But it's entirely and solely the business of him and his DP how they feed their infant.

Dh said he thought Ed pointed to Aptamil and said "We use that one". Dh could be shit-stirring. I couldn't care less

I saw the clip on the news and knew there would be a thread about it Grin

Is it a joke?

This is not why Ed Milliband is terrible BTW.

Oh honestly, it matters not.

If his dp is struggling with BF and happens to be on here I'm sure she'll feel great about seeing this thread Hmm. It's nobody's business but theirs.

scottishmummy · 25/11/2010 22:26

Tethers, there is one of those gratuitous is-it-ok-to-say-cunt threads going on somewhere. I feel sure that I have bumped into you on those before, which is perhaps why as I was reading it I randomly thought "where is tethers?" And here you are!

tethersend · 25/11/2010 22:31

Oooh, have you a link? I love a good cunt thread. I think I'd like Ed more if he called people cunts.

Report
Preggersplayspop · 25/11/2010 22:31

I haven't seen the clip but from the description it sounds like he was just making idle chit chat.
