Choosing godparents - same again or brand new ones?

My dd was baptised and her two godparents are two close friends of mine (one catholic, one baptist, both believers). Now we're thinking about dd2. My first reaction was to ask both of them again, however my mother thinks that we should have different godparents (relatives).
So is it common/normal to have the same godparents for both kids or am I just being lazy?

My feeling is that (as someone else mentioned on another thread) it's nice having friends as godparents since family are already special. My concern is that my dd will have these godparents(godmother has children the same age as our two and godfather visits and sends gifts at Christmas/birthday) who come to visit and send presents etc. so if we choose other godparents 2nd dd might be getting 2nd best. Also if they are relatives she'll get fewer gifts which would be good from our perspective but she might find it a bit unfair (sounds a bit mercenary, but she might feel a bit hard done by).

We had the same Godparents for both of our DD's. I felt that as the Godparents (a married couple)were such great GP to our fist DD that 2nd DD would feel left out if we picked different ones!

I think you are right about relatives.

Hope this helps?

My children have the same godparents. They are all family - my take on the friends vs family situation is that your friends are friends with you but family are related to both you and your DC. Mind you there are exceptions! Some families aren't interested in DCs and some parents' friends do form a special bond with DCs.

Me and my brothers don't have the same godparents and I have always thought it was odd.

I think its unusual to have the same godparents for your dcs but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

I chose friends because I think family already have a special role.

DD1s godparents are/were a fantastic choice so we were a bit concerned when choosing dd2s. We've actually just ended up going for 4 (DD1 has the traditional 3).

However, I'd just go with what you want - if you want the same ones, have them.
