I do tarot (not for a while though). I do tend to find I get better results when I'm relaxed. A glass of wine helps (I don't charge, more for friends/me).

It takes time to learn what the cards mean, that's why the book helps. The more you learn them, the better and easier it gets.

I've never tried a crystal ball, I would like to though.

ive been "learning" for about 6 years , but only do it occasionally! , got my crystal from waterstones .... comes in a box with a book and a ring to set it on, its about the size of a snooker ball. my friend got a rose quartz one from hong kong.it beautiful and huge size like a small melon.

I don't think your ball's big enough. It needs to be large and flawless I think.

Try and use your cards a little more, this should help. Ideally, you should carry them with you for 24 hours before you do a reading and don't let anyone else use them. Try and do your own reading and try to see how the cards relate to each other.

Inside coat pocket? Maybe somewhere saf in the house, then get them out when you can and look through them. Grab a couple out at random and try and see how they relate to each other?

I have no idea about cystal balls, they dont take my fancy much! But tarot takes a long time to learn, in fact i doubt you ever finish learning. I have read for 13 years now and still get times where a reading isnt particularly clear.

What deck of cards do you have? The rider-waite deck is great for newcomers to the tarot, its imagery contains a lot of clues to the basic meanings, rather than having to refer to a book.

When you take out a card, just look at it, see what comes to mind. What colours are used? What words can you associate with the imagery? If you do this BEFORE looking for meanings in a book, you should notice you can grasp at least some of it by yourself.

The books will only teach you a very basic meaning, to properly read the cards, you need to look at other cards in the spread, how they relate to your card, where your card is positioned in a spread and much more. Its really quite complex, so it might be better to just focus on the tarot OR the crystal ball, rather than them both?

Where you keep your cards...I dont keep them on my person, i keep them where i spend the most time in my house (my personal space). Shamefully its at my computer! So they are in a special box beside my printer.

Good luck

i am teaching myself tarot, though its hard finding the quiet time to get to know the cards - just wanted to say and oh my gosh hope this isnt wrong, promise promise its not an advert cos teh service is free - wonderful site i have found called pleasure of tarot - just search that phrase for full addres - you get a free online weekly tarot lesson every monday you can do at your leisure, with a test after if you like, and they have free readings and loads of free info.i have the rider waite pack, it is lovely for beginners as most of the books etc use those to illustrate. wishing all the best with them. i keep my cards stil in their box but keep reading they should be wrapped in black silk - well, eek, mine arent!

You are supposed to sleep with them under your pillow ~ one different one each night face up. Obviously this takes 78 nights to do the whole lot!
I don't get on so well with Tarot cards, but I do(used to)use ordinary playing cards and I combine a crystal ball at the same time. Some say you shouldn't use two channels at the same time, but it works for me. It's just practise and patience.
I stopped doing readings because it takes too much of my energy since I became ill.
