DS1 is 3 and we were driving in the car when he suddenly went from constantly asking "are we there yet?" to "why is the man talking to me?"

I said "what do you mean?" and he repeated the question. I said "I don't know, what is he saying to you" to which ds1 replied "he's saying

hm...is it possible that your son has tinnitus?

or maybe he has picked something up from a relative? children a re far mroe receptive than we give them credit for. adults are used to not hearing thnigns in thatmanner - they attribute them to "being silly"

I've always thought that as children we are much more in tune to extra sensory phenomena and more sensitive that adults give us credit for.

it still could be tinnitus though, and would be worth checking it out.
I know of several people who's Kids sudenly started hearing voices and were found to have tinnitus....

my firends little boy started to hear someone calling his name (or so he said and thought)...and my friend freaked out (because her Brother had recently died) and well...it was Tinnitus...admittedly her little boy was very disturbed by that experience...it frightened him so much....poor thing!

children are meant to be more receptive to hearing spirits because they dont know that its not right to hear people that are not there talking to them. so they are more open to it than us. i do believe in the spiritual world so imo it could be that. maybe a relative or someone visiting?

i have tinitus and had it is as a child but it never sounded like anyone talking. i always thought it was a phone or alarm going off in the distance. but its worth getting it checked just incase.

must admit...I am not the greatest believer in these sort of things...not completely disbelieving neither...but would always go for the more obvious reasons before assuming it is somehting like that....ykwim

Dh and MIL are apparently very receptive to these sort of things...MIL has several instances where she said she seen a ghost, etc...but, I suppose unless it happened to me, I will always be more doubtful...

my 7-yr-old daughter casually told me she'd just heard the 'Voice of God' in the car the other day. when i pressed her on what had happened she said 'well, it was either God or Grandad - but i think it was God. he said 'alright''. i was interested to find out whether this was a deep booming reassuring 'all is well my child' sort of 'alright' or a chatty, chummy 'alright mate' sort of 'alright' - she thought the former. i await further developments and will keep you posted!!i can't say i immediately thought of tinnitus by the way...but hey that's just unimaginative non-laterally-thinking little ol' me...

Oh goodness, I can't believe people are actually suggesting ESP...the world is mad.

i wasn't, for one, though, hey, i keep an open mind!! i was having a light-hearted chat with my daughter. it happens now and again when there is a lull between crises!

Nothing wrong with keeping an open mind sycamoretree!!

I'm not convinced either way but wouldn't dismiss any possibilities. Have never had any ghostly experiences myself but have had premonitions (really dull ones, but hey!)

I'm an intolerant old cow! I just find the whole notion preposterous, but maybe that's because I'd totally pup myself if it turned out to be true

my cousin used to point out buildings to his mother and say 'i built that mommy'

all the bulidings happened to be designed by the same architect when she checked it out

he was about 2 when he did it and can't remember doing it now he's older.

Though I mock, I get it totally, and I think that children are much more likely to pick up on ESP than us as they have much more headspace than us.
I frequently see/feel the presence of my loved ones and it reassures me to know they are still here.
If your DC is concerned about this voice tell him as gently as you can to tell the man to go away as he is frightenning him. The "man" will go as he won't want to upset your child.

LOL at ipod!

He's not said anything since, but then it happened in the car a hundred miles from where we live.

He didn't seem frightened just annoyed. I told him he can "talk" to anyone he like but please don't invite them home

I doubt that you had a random ghostie, or hitchhiker ghostie in the car with you, as yours and your DSs guides wouldn't allow it.
