does anyone have any knowledge about, or personal experience of reiki (SP) healing please? My SIL is hoping to start a training course in reiki and I know very little about it.

I have! I first came across reiki 4 years ago, and have had many sessions of reiki healing. I am now able to "give" Reiki to others.

"Rei" roughly translated means universal and "ki" means energy (like chi in Chinese). The basic principal is that the person who is giving the reiki is able to let the energy flow through them and out of their hands into the other person's energy system/ aura. If your SIL is going on a training course, he will probably learn how to do this- it involves the use of symbols and stating intentions.

If you are not familiar with/ keen on energy work such as acupunture/ tai chi etc then it can all sound mighty strange! But personally, I have found it to have a hugely positive impact on me physically, emotionally and spiritually. And I wasn't a very spiritual person to begin with. Even my brother who is a scientist, an aetheist and a sceptic said it was relaxing!

As with all branches of alternative medicine, you can come across some dodgy people who don't really understand it and present it in a very obscure way. I hope your SIL gets someone good! Exciting times ahead.
