My little niece is getting christened in a few days and although I am not religious myself, I would like to give her a meaningful present that she can keep in the future. I don't like the idea of a silver spoon... Any ideas welcome! THANKS!

It was my son's christning recently and we got some lovely presents but by far the best was a 'keepsake' box in which his godmother had written him a letter dated with his christening day for him to read in the future. Made me cry - it was so thoughtful and a lovely thing to do. You could add anything really to make it personal and meaningful. Another one was a christening record book (like a wedding record book) which the guests could write something special in. Hope this helps...enjoy your christening.

Can't be much help we got some great pressies at both the boys christenings however we now own 6 junior bibles. - You probably weren't going to but don't buy them a bible.

I bought all four of my nieces a cross on a silver chain.

And i'm the most raving heathen you'll ever meet!

They were very pretty though and appreciated by the parents (to be worn later).

What about a tree from the Woodland Trust? You can get a tree or trees planted in the baby's name at a woodland near to where they live.

Bought this for a friend's little boy and they said it was the best present they'd got. Might be a bit late to get the certificate sent through but you could write it in a card and the cert will get sent to them later.

We did a keepsake box too for our nephews christening. We put in a couple of nice bottles of wine (red/white), took photos of us all and put them in, the No1 CD single of that day and a newspaper with the date of the christening..plus a letter. Then tied it up with a padlock not to be opened til their 18th Birthday.

Think I still have the key for the padlock somewhere........

John Lewis do lovely silver plated money boxes. We bought one for a friend's new baby in the shape of a teddy bear. I think it was £15 and comes in a lovely pouch inside a box.

If you know anywhere that sells East of India products (usually small, independent gift shops!) they do beautiful engraved and painted Christening boxes or baptism certificate holders. You can also buy them at various onlineretailers but I guess you're in a hurry to get the gift if the baptism is in a few days?

How about a silver money box.You can get them from any jewelers.If the christening does give any money the parents can save the money and put it in a bank/building society so in the future it will add interest in it.Also you can have these ingraved so itr will be personal.HOPE IT ALL GOES WELL XXXX

How about a nice charm bracelet that you can add charms to each birthday? You could start with a charm engraved with her name. Links of London do nice ones that you can buy online.
