Levitated in sleep/dream?

Hi

Hope I’m posting in the right section.

This actually happened to me many years ago. I was about 25, I guess. I lived alone at the time and worked fairly long hours at times. Anyway, one night in my sleep, I stood next to my bed but I wasn’t actually standing, I knew that I was floating about 2 inches above the carpet. I floated myself into the hallway. I put my hand on the light switch. The switch was old, protruded out of the wall and had layers of paint on it so it had quite a specific feel to it. I pulled the switch down, I could feel the switch and I remember thinking that I must be levitating because I could feel the switch under my hand but not the floor under my feet. As I pulled the switch down, the hallway light failed to come on. I heard the click of the switch so I knew I’d put the light on. But the light failed and I remained in darkness. In my dream I thought I must change the bulb tomorrow. I felt as though I could have floated further into the living room but as I was in darkness I returned to my bed.

I woke in the morning knowing something very odd had happened. I tried the light switch and the light came on.

My mum was a fairly spiritual person so I knew she’d believe me. When I told her what had happened, she said that she thought I’d just been very tired.

I’ve never had a similar experience again but have often wondered what went on. Grateful for any opinions.

Thanks!

Sounds like a lucid dream or even a first astral projection experience where you can leave your physical body behind and travel on the astral planes.

It’s also commonly know as an out of body experience.

Have you tried to do it since?

Thank you for your reply! I had wondered but having absolutely zero other experience of it before or since, I just wasn’t sure what it could have been.

I have not tried to do it again, I feel afraid to. Not that it scared me but I tend to sleep quite lightly since having kids.

Thanks so much for relying.

Have you been watching 'Behind her eyes' on Netflix?!

Yes! Which reminded me of this experience. And I had read the book a few years ago.

I was certain that my body was still in bed while I floated that short distance.

Thank you for believing me.

The other weird thing was that during the experience I remember thinking that I felt like I was among angels. I felt so incredibly light and serene. I think I was probably in a very deep state of relaxation.

Anyone else any experience of a lucid dream or astral projection?

I astral travel at will but I’ve never yet lucid dreamed. It’s a knack which some people find very easy, some work hard to achieve it and most give up trying.

Paradoxically the harder you try , the more likely you won’t succeed. A very deep level of relaxation is needed and there is often a weird vibration just as you get there which tends to shake people out of it until they come to expect it.

I sometimes have very lucid dreams. There are several recurring ones but one of them is where I am flying, a little bit like the children in Peter Pan. It is a lovely dream. Unfortunately, I also have some nightmares which are recurring. They are so real that I wake up breathless with my heart pounding and cannot get back to sleep.
