the cheapest...if you're gonna be ripped off, best not to part with all your money too early!

Most places that sell crystals have small tumble stones.

Depending on which type it is, the price shouldn't be more than about 50p - £1.50 per stone.

Good ones to start with are quartz and rose quartz although any from the following are nice: citrine, blue lace agate, carnelian, amethyst, aventurine, tigers eye, red jasper, sodalite (shall I go on )

Try to buy in person if you can rather than online. With crystals, the feel of the stones is always important.

I love crystals. I used to be a crystallographer. I love their external beauty and internal symmetry. I am fascinated about what they can reveal about molecular structure, including the function of proteins.

I have no idea what this question is doing under this heading!

Ha Ha Emsmum, wondeful post but I'm guessing Jo believes the crystals are supposed to heal hence the topic title...sigh!

That would be because some of us admire the beauty but don't have your depth of molecular knowledge

Crystals are used in some alternative therapies as well as having religious uses for Pagans.

Ooh I usually have a lot of time for Pagans back to basics beliefs, no sexism and opression involved. But can't stretch to believing amorphous rocks can cure lol.

Each to their own Lil.

Jofeb, have you got a copy of the Crystal Bible? I've found that really helpful. I got mine from Ebay and I think 5 crystals came with it.

But other than that I just go and have a look at the crystals on sale and see what draws me. My boss is really good at knowing her crystals and what they're all for. Me? I can never remember names or uses, so just go with my instinct and what I feel like wearing.

lil... crystals are not amorphous rocks. Amorphous structures lack order, crystals are highly ordered. If people are going to bandy scientific terms about, better get them right.
