an old fashioned thing my mum used to do was use a mix of sugar and vinegar to clean everything and then rinse again with fresh water. It seems to help rid of lots of yuck.

hmm , re paint as your doing , cleanse the rooms with some incense , im not sure which herbs are best for cleansing will have to ask my fellow spiritual sisters !

I have found this in the meantime , somehting there may click with you and feel right to do cleansing and purifyng the home

smudging thats the word I was trying to think of , its a rolled up paper that you burn and then let smoke as you incant your intentions & move thorugh the space you wnat to cleanse.

Yes Melsy good word Smudging is used for clearing the past - either wrtten down or burning sage. essbee if I am trying to clear a space I like to use what I feel comfortable or connect with. I like garlic. I have often placed it at the corners of a room for protection. Fung Shui is another way to help cleanse a room. You could probably get books at the library about it. Or have a look on the web. I will have a look to later.

rose quartz crystal is great for absorbing negatibe energy and putting out positive energy. you could even try carrying a piece around with you, to give you comfort.

meditate with it and put out good intention for where you are.

some info about feng shui

I think vanilla would be good to use - the essential oil is connected with tht 6th chakra "third eye" and is said to encourage peace of mind and wisdom.
Research done on vanilla in a NY hospital were found that people felt less claustrophobic and reduced their anxiety.

Yes Rose quartz is good for clearing negative energy - I have been advised to use just one stone in the house.

Don't spend money on Chrystals etc - theres nothing magic about all this - just House Doctor the home a bit - ie tidy up, dust, draw the curtains, buy flowers etc and you will instantly feel happier about your home. I don't buy this energy retaining stuff - you can't go round being frightened of the furniture - just look after yourself and make an efort with your home. YOU are the main force within it - and if you can feel more positive then the world will seem a brighter place!

thanks shortcake but don´t do this and don´t do that is afterall not very postive energy. Flowers are lovely and brighten up a place. People also find pleasure from symbols, nice fragrances and looking after themselves that way. Different strokes and all that

Essbee, you are not going to believe this, but I know this one! I have a friend who is into it and was buying some stuff for a friend of hers home (uh... not sure of the punctuation or grammar there!).

You need to get sage smudge sticks (like here and lit them, then put them out and smoke out all the corners of your house (that's where the bad vibes hide, I guess). And there you go! They're all gone.

HTH!

Wow, amazing typos, sorry! You light the sage sticks... of course.

Thanks Papillon - but I don't feel that encouraging someone to spend unnecessary money is positive energy either. Essbee - I am sure you have it within yourself to create a positive feel in your home. You need to believe in yourself - I know you can!

Not wanting to discriminate against flowers but floral aromatherapy prolongs the enjoyment and benefits of the scent while the fresh bunch goes in the bin ..probably cheaper that way

essbee - you could buy some fake flowers and put essential oil on them, then you get the smells but without having to chuck the whole thing away every few days. Will email you about this stuff, but my addled brain keeps getting confused - can I email you on your msn email addy or should I use your other one (which I've totally lost)?

shortcake - spending money isn't the answer to everything, granted, but some things DO help and very little in life comes for free. You may not believe in crystals or anything else people suggest but other people feel differently - crystals have been used for millenia to help in life so they can't be written off as 'not working' - whether their effect is 'real' or psychosomatic is not the point when all you want is to feel better. And also, many people feel tied down to negative energy by furniture and objects - its been well documented in cases of crime victims for a start. If you can feel more positive by just changing your mental attitude then great but some people, me included, find it a huge help to 'do' something too, and IMO that shouldn't be criticized. When I left my ex I took barely anything with me (just necessities) and didn't even want any of 'our' furniture because I felt sick at the sight and no positive thinking could shake that for me - like papillon says it really is different strokes for different folks.

Shortcake I dont any evidence that crystals work but always try to keep an open mind. I think that is what this part of the site is for and when I cam here first I had a very closed mind in many ways but the more I talk here and at least try to be open and understanding somehow the happier I feel.

Essbee hope you are ok. I love candles and vanilla and would have a bit of rose quartz as it is pretty and I love the feel of crystals. You have made me feel like doing a bit of tidying too and starting to clear some of the mess I surround myself with!

Melsy your links were brilliant!

I don't know whether vanilla has any scientifically proven relaxation properties, but it certainly smells lovely, if your senses are being pampered you are going to feel better, surely? And it's not a stimulating smell like, say, citrus, if you know what I mean, it's more calming.

Sometimes these things just feel right and you can't explain it it words. That's what spirituality is all about IMO.

the research on vanilla in hospitals said it could be psychological. Nothing wrong with that and citrus especially grapefruit is good for stimulation of the senses. Lavender is for relaxing.

do you have something you like doing essbee - painting etc... to transform things abit. I have used industrial cardboard for artwork even egg cartons people love them, they always say how great they are!

shortcake · 26/09/2004 13:56

Thank you Papillon - but I'm not offended - I just feel that people should have a chance to voice their opinions and give advice when its asked for - isn't theat the point of the site??? - and IMO people talk about these things in such a spiritual way - but actually it is common sense. I agree that Essbee may want to change things and make her home feel more positive but it seems to me that buying Chrystals and purifying the past are going a step further - and definately a step too far!!

Report
shortcake · 26/09/2004 13:57

By the way - I'm quite happy with aesthetics and fragrances being used to create a great environment - just not this purifying or exorcising bit!!
