The Archbishop for York

Golly, what a bloke.

I served breakfast to the Archbishops of Perth, Brisbane and York this morning for work and they were such jolly fellows. I decided to read up on Dr John Sentamu and when I go back to serve dinner this evening i will shake him warmly by the hand and give him an extra serve of mash.

I am not a member of an organised religion myself but when I read his biography, from escaping Amin to working on the Damilola Taylor enquiry and his stances on ordination of women and forthright critisicm of the war in Iraq, I feel very honoured to meet such a genuine person and Statesman and who speaks from the heart about what he believes in and has such a strong commitment to the good of the people of Britain.

Heck, I will give him as many serves of mash as he can fit under his surplice.

lol
do you have a link?
I thought he sounded like a Good Thing, but don't know an awful lot about his career.

He is soooooo cool. When poor old Rowan Williams finally gives it up he'll be Archbish of Canterbury.

here's a link to the BBC site of his profile

he is very cool.
Imagine being imprisoned by Amin and all the rest he's been through.
There's been a big shin-dig here to celebrate 150 years of Anglicanism in Perth, I wonder if I shall see him in his full regalia?

He plays drums in York Minster at some of the services, too.

Give him an extra spoonful of gravy for me.

I love him. I saw him drumming (can't remember what type of drums) on the TV a couple of weeks ago, in full Archbishoply regalia.

I will be doinmg cartwheels on the front lawn if he becomes the Archbish of Canterbury! (then again I like Williams too, but not quite as much...!)

Poor RW is too nice. John Sentamu has a bit more bite to him and won't take the nonsense from the Global South.

Yes I read about the drumming!

I mentioned to him that I had googled him and seen all the stuff he had done for London and Britain and he and his charming wife ....guffawed with heartly laughter that he had been cyber stalked. He made me blush and teased me for the rest of the night in a good humoured way.

And let me tell you he had seconds and maybe thirds of the curry and rice I served up. Bless him.

Just came across this posting. I worship at York Minster and have met the Archibishop on a number of occasions. He is genuinely a lovely chap.

My husband and son followed his procession off the boat on the River Ouse and through York on the day of the Archbishiop's inauguartion. Dr Sentamu says he remembers my son from that day and has always spoken to him about it since (my DS is 2 1/2 now). The Archbishop speaks out for what he believes in. He is a joy to listen to and an inspiration.

Awww - I came across his inauguration whilst telly zapping last year and was blown away by it. I actually cried when he walked out at the end, to be followed, not by a formal choir procession, but by hundreds of helium filled balloons, which were released outside, carrying the message something like "Everyone welcome!" Love it!
