Can you lovely people out there point me in the direction of some prayers for a wedding - my friend has asked me to do them but with the happy day approaching fast, I'm afraid of having a blank mind or waffling without some help.

what are they like? what's the service like? Heavily Jesus-y or a bit broader?

They attend a traditional service regularly - hymns include the usual suspects (all things Bright and beautiful etc)

I wrote some intercessions for my sister's RC wedding last year - you're welcome to those if they'll help...

LOL as MrsB "heavily Jesus-y or a bit broader"

do people really still sing All things bright and beautiful" at weddings?

if trad, why not try something like this (couple of verses from Isiah)

'No longer called “Forsaken”,
your land no longer called “Desolate”,
you will be called “My pleasure in her”,
and your land “The Wedded”;
for the Lord has been well pleased with you,
and your land will receive its bridegroom.

We pray for all the blessings of companionship and love for X and Y.'

You could try to dig up a Celtic traditional blessing, that is unlikely to offend anyone and a bit different.

I used the one below at a wedding, plus a bit more off the top of my head, still have it written out. (Wedding was in the highlands of Scotland so all the mountain and river stuff quite relevant). It doesn't actually mention weddings but seems to fit with married life.

There's also one that starts "may the road rise to meet you"

I can't find it on google so I am probably about to commit some awful copyright trespass.

As runs the river down to the sea
May God's love to you flow free.
As lap the waves upon the shore
God's presence come to you evermore.
As mighty hills rise in their place
May God fill you with his good grace.
As streams in valleys run so deep
May God's strong arm protect and keep.
As shines the sun so faithfully
May God give his prosperity.
As God most high created you
May he fill your whole life through
As Christ the Saviour hung on cross
May he redeem your life from loss.
As the Spirit shall on you descend
May he become your lasting friend
As you are surrounded by the Trinity
May they protect you unto infinity

thanks very much everyone. my dh has found some lovely prayers in the book of common worship which we have used as a base, de-formalised and adapted to my friends situation.

actually, celtic prayers were the first place we looked!

My mum read this at our wedding. There wasn't a dry eye in the room by the time she had finished - including hers and mine!

Now you will feel no rain,
for each of you will be the shelter to the other
Now you will feel no cold,
for each of you will be the warmth to the other,
Now there will be no loneliness,
for each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two persons,
but there is one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place
to enter into the days of your togetherness.
And may your days be good and long upon this earth.
