I have finally (after years!) got the courage up to start learning tarot after reading another thread on here. Do you read tarot yourself?

@ReginaOcarina - yes! And well done for doing it!
I've never seen a tarot group on here!
I do tarot myself.. but no one else I was interested at a young age. And then got my first deck when I was 18 (I think) I'm now 24.

Are you enjoying it 😁?

It wasn't a specific tarot thread I think it's called 'are there any witches here?' It had so many interesting people on different paths and tarot came up on there. It's still active if you want to have a nose!

My cards haven't turned up yet! I was advised to choose some that stood out for me, so I'm waiting (impatiently) but reading books and info online trying to get used to what each card means until they arrive.

Have you got any tips? Did anyone teach you or did you learn by yourself? I have always wanted to learn so I'm going to go for it but will probably just do it on myself!

@ReginaOcarina - to be honest it all depends what your question is..
There's a few websites I like. But my favourite is biddy tarot
She actually describes the cards and then explain what they mean.
There was also a forum called tarot forum.net even though the site is closed. You can see other people's post and ideas on them.
I have been debating to start a forum for tarot. But I'm not sure if it will work out or not!

I'm going to try and do a journal on them or a scrap book kind of thing so I can get an idea in what's coming on them.

What deck did you pick?
@Hoolahoophop - I love my tarot cards!
And yes! You should if your ready then go for it! Some people are nervous of them (not saying you are) But I like them as they can give a story on any situation. And help you guide x

Hey @Hoolahoophop! How did you get on with tea leaves? I have family that read tarot and tea leaves and it always fascinated me but I always felt kind of embarrassed to give it a go! Were you taught by someone or did you develop it yourself?

I only really played with tea leaves, it's fun though. The ceremony of making the tea is nice, gets you relaxed and in the space. I have a cup with markings on and read up in books. Id not say I got much from it in all honesty but have enjoyed giving it a go.

Hi I realise that this thread is a little old but I would also love to get into Tarot reading. The only problem is...at the moment I don't know enough about it. I'd love some advice on where to start? Any good books you recommend?

Thanks!

Naughtykitty I would advise you to join a local spiritual group who teach it. Holistic shops often run classes. You can't really learn much from a book it comes from the practice as its your own psychic awareness that does the reading using the cards as a tool. Its not the actual card that has a meaning but the intepretation of it from the reader, ie you. Going to a class means you can ask questions and get practice in. That's the important part.

I’ve just started too. I wondered whether you had advice about reading for yourself?

I’ve been dabbling and quite like it but am nervous about projecting. For example in a ‘what is my future with x’ type reading I got the wheel of fortune in the future then justice in two other similar readings with the same person as the wheel of fortune so am worried I’m seeing what I want to see (that we have a future) if that makes sense?

Yes, I read the tarot, angel and oracle cards. I read the cards intuitively, as opposed to sticking to the traditional meanings of the cards. I Love it and am always "wow'd" by the fact that one card can offer different meaning and perspectives for two different people.

@ellierigby

Some people can find it difficult to read for themselves as it can be hard to stay impartial. I know that if I am emotionally invested in a situation I will often consult my psychic.

I don't know how far apart the readings were that you mention. However, if they were done at different times it may be that the energy of the situation has changed, which is why you are getting different cards. Also, the cards could be giving you advice or showing you what you need to be aware of in the future, rather than giving you that definitive yes or no answer.

@NaughtyKitty

I learnt to read the cards by developing my intuitive faculties first. So rather than reading the cards according to what is said in the book, I would trust the guidance that comes through related to the card and the person I am reading for.

You could start by giving yourself daily readings. Picking a card for the day. Meditate on it. What messages or images come to mind? Write these down and then refer back to it at the end of the day.

The more you do exercises like this the more you get to know your cards and develop your ability to work with your natural intuition, which is always an asset to you anyway.

I read the Tarot started when was 18 so about 30 years now. I mainly taught myself but did go to a Tarot “school” when I lived in London for a while. There are some good tutorials on you tube I like the “Practical Tarot Tutor” ones. It’s about developing your own psychic and intuitive awareness channelled through the cards. It’s difficult to read for yourself as difficult to be impartial but I do it, I have found a lot of reassurance in the cards and they help you do make sense of things. I do readings for friends and family as well. Sometimes just for a bit of fun. When England played Columbia recently I couldn’t bear to watch as penalty shoot out started so went and drew a tarot card instead asking if England would win, got 4 wands means success and celebrations!

Thanks! I’ve got to say the cards I have drawn for certain situations do feel quite eerie sometimes
