Autumn Equinox

Autumn Blessings!

The wheel of the year is set to turn again as the evenings begin to lengthen. The hedges are abundant with berries and our hearts and minds are ready to take stock of the gifts we have received throughout he year.

Our family have been picking sloes to make gin and syrup and have made elderberry jelly. Tomorrow we will have a celebratory meal of butternut squash soup, homemade bread and apple cake and make a blessings tree.

If you are so inclined, what will you be doing to mark the Equinox?

Merry Mabon!

I have been baking, making spell kits and talismen for friends.
Having a lovely day, hope you are too.

Twostepsonthewater · 21/09/2017 21:16

That sounds lovely. I like the idea of spell kits for friends.

I'm new to paganism and witchcraft and enjoying finding my way. Thank you for your reply as I don't know anyone else celebrating IRL

Blessed Be.

Solstice blessings! 🍁🍂🌾

Glad I found a thread for this Smile I'm not a fully practising pagan but I have felt very drawn to it and this year I decided to start trying to follow the autumn and winter festivals.
We have been baking salt dough decorations for the house and painting them, and drying out orange slices to make garlands with cinnamon sticks. Later on we're going to go for a walk around a local lake to find branches for our gratitude tree.
Love hearing about how others are celebrating Smile

I'm celebrating too, in a 'nod to my pagan ancestors' kinda way. I am finding more and more that I am drawn to nature and the cycle of the year.

We have enjoyed the beautiful sunny lightness of the day, and I have spruced up the house ready for the autumn.

As we go into the darkness, we have a roast dinner, with all the trimmings and homemade apple sauce with handpicked apples, followed by homegrown pears in a pudding, plus cider and pear juice.

I love celebrating the old festivals.

Merry Mabon!

scrappy, I love the sound of your meal.

I celebrate all the festivals, adds such a sparkle to life.

ScrappyMalloy · 22/09/2017 18:55

Thank you - that means a lot to me WineFlowers

Happy Equinox! Looking forward to cosy evenings in front of the fire as the wheel turns towards Samhain.

Mrsmadcatlady · 23/09/2017 21:08

Merry meet!

speakout · 24/09/2017 06:41

I bought myself a besom yesterday- it's taller than me. I will start to decorate it soon, and use it as part of my Samhain decorations.
Halloween is huge in my village, we get around 50 guisers coming to the door. ( trick or treat in other parts of the country)
Our streets are jumping, I make pumpkin soup and spiced cider for friends and neighbours that pop in.

ScrappyMalloy · 24/09/2017 19:09

That sounds like an exciting celebration, speakout !

We live in a village but not many children in the surrounding roads so we have NEVER had a trick or treater knock here, even though I buy sweets just in case and eat them myself

TooManyPaws · 24/09/2017 20:26

Equinox blessings! As the wheel turns to the dark half of the year, it's the time to start counting the joys of home, family and friends. ❤️ Here, the barley behind the house was only cut last week so Equinox as usual is hard on the heels of our Lammas. Smile. No need to prepare for guisers at Samhain - half a mile of unlit rural road tends to put them off Grin

Twostepsonthewater · 24/09/2017 20:43

Wow! I checked back and so many replies!

It's good to hear what you all have been up to, and how you plan to celebrate Samhain.
I am a bit of a Pinterest addict and have been pinning like mad in readiness.

Meanwhile I am enjoying foraging and filling the fridge and pantry. I have been picking Hawthorn berries to make a tincture this evening. The neighbours keep asking what I am up to!

I am definitely eclectic in my approach to witchcraft but find myself drawn to the kitchen, hearth and home.

It's really nice to hear what other people are up to, as i don't know anyone in real life who is interested.

Halloween was a sad time for me for many years (anniversary of my baby being stillborn) but last year I celebrated it as Samhain and it was so much better. I honoured my ancestors and asked them to take care of him, and we decorated the house, and feasted and laughed, and the house was warm again.

I'm a big Pinner too. I have tried simple spells 😊 and have had some unexpectedly positive results, which makes me want to learn more.

primitivemom · 02/10/2017 00:56

Scrappy 💐I put all my decorations up already, I love this time of year so magical x

speakout · 02/10/2017 06:25

Another witch in out midst. How exciting!

Elphame · 02/10/2017 08:27

I put all my decorations up already

I never take them down! My porch has cauldron plant pots and green men and one of those hanging witches that carries the household protection working. I also keep my broomsticks there. I do try and keep the witchy stuff confined to there and to my private temple room but it does sort of creep - especially the books!
