A place to share and chat about our funny (and not so funny experiences) in and out of church.
Did anyone say coffee? That would be good Brew

Christian coffee - always better than Christian tea... as long as it is in a mug not a cup and saucer.

Hello friends. I have a major piece of work today. So naturally I'm just checking MN before I get started. Hmm

But just here to bags a spot on the pew (chair! no, pew! no chair etc). I've been doing lots of unpacking at my parents' - yesterday I found a gorgeous very old and faded devotional triptych. My dad told me his mum had it on her dresser all her life, and prayed with it every day. I cried. I'm such a sentimental and religious fool these days. Smile

Tea for me please, in a mug. Grin

My home is the noisiest place in the world today with roadworks and other random noise happening. So I've made a caffeinated coffee- not my norm. Hope it helps!

Thanks for the thread Oma. It's good to see people rolling in...

Hello :)

following on the other thread, I'm happy for anyone to join in our thread, but we must stick the primary objective - "it's not about debate, just chat"
there are many other places on MN to debate sky fairies and other agnosticisms. This isn't it.
We started these threads as a safe space to discuss our lives as Christians, not to have to explain why we are.

Everyone is welcome here.

Edd that sounds lovely - if you're up to sharing, i'd love to see it

I'm still feeling miserable about saints.
I was getting less and less attached, when I got an email telling me they've changed their website and I was being reminded to delete the choir facebook page (which had been scheduled for deletion but simehow hadn't deleted - I wasn't in the mind to chase it up so I left it there), and to delete the old choir website (which belongs to me and so I am ignoring that bit. I've set it to locked, but I'm not deleting something that I've worked on for about 8 years)
The new website is horrible. Absolutely ugly and gross. And really unprofessional
They've also deleted all trace of me and DH, apart from them keeping some of my photos because they cba to take new ones.
I told them to remove those too.
I say "they" and "them" but what I really mean is one person who I used to call a friend who's on the pcc and has taken over the website/social media.
The churchwardens still haven't lowered themselves to contact me directly.
The pcc haven't learned from their mistakes - they obsessed over making sure passwords were changed etc, but it's all now in the charge of one person. Who has set everything to be connected to her personal email. So she could do a runner and they'll be up the creek again.
(At least when I left, I still kept updating it and making sure it still worked)

I'm so cross.
part of me really wants to damage their reputation by telling everybody what happened, but I can't even complete the thought without feeling nasty.
And i'd not announced that I wasn't webmaster anymore so I could avoid telling people the truth about them, but I gad to announce it when I saw the new website. I didn't want my name associated with that

Signing in. Coffee sounds good. One of the things I love about these threads is the different churches we attend and as a result the different views people have. I was at a church event in the last week when it struck me how insular some people can be, barely looking beyond their own small group within a denomination, let alone outside it.

Thanks for the clarification nickel.

I'm sorry you are struggling a bit still- the gift that keeps on giving Sad

Edd, I'd love to see the triptych too. I've never particularly 'got' religious art, but I do 'get' that reverence of things which have been cherished for many years. There is something about faithfulness and devotion. I first felt it looking at the Sagrada Familia. The scale and determination and devotion filled me with awe.

I've been on the liberal/rational side of faith, not particularly sacramental, so I'm rarely affected by 'things' or ritual. I'm starting to feel myself opening up to it though, as I get older or learn from others' experiences.

I've never put a picture on MN. Here it is maybe.

Evening all!
Lovely shiny new thread, yay!
Edd, your triptych is beautiful Smile
Nickel sorry to hear about the website Sad that all sounds rubbish.

Would anyone be up for a meetup over the summer as the one we were planning before didn't happen?

Or perhaps not such a good idea as many of you will have the school holidays soon...

I can't really afford to go anywhere at the moment.

I probably wouldn't be able to justify another day out for 'Christian' purposes for the time being! But I'm going to Greenbelt, and very happy to meet up there with anyone else who is going. Sorry I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, and it's not cheap either... but I'm really looking forward to it Grin

Oh, I would love to go to Greenbelt! Let me know what it's like. If I get a job, I might be able to go next year.

A meet up would be lovely, but I'm probably too far away from most of you. Anyone else in Scotland?

Report
picklemepopcorn · 17/06/2017 10:38

I used to go to New Wine. Never been to Greenbelt. I know it's a bit lame but I'm starting to feel a bit old for the Christian conference thing. I loved them and went for years working on teams etc. The idea of packing and camping now just doesn't thrill as it used to!

It's not impossible broomstick - maybe one day! :)

apples there is someone but I can't remember who... she might turn up here and tell us...

Mid-40s ... feeling 140 today though

Report
picklemepopcorn · 17/06/2017 18:17

Late forties. It's not age really. It's more having no get up and go. I loved it though, it's well worth it. So nice to see hundreds of people who share faith, albeit diversely. So many opportunities to learn and be challenged.

Lots of experiences of God, too. Unlikely ones.
