I've read many threads on mumsnet on the theme 'have you ever experienced an evil presence' etc but would like to her about people's experiences of the opposite.

Have you ever experienced an angelic presence?

Please note I have posted in philosophy for a reason. If you do not believe, please fell free to ignore and carry on with whatever else you're doing.

I'm interested in this too. Throughout my life I've had a few things happen that have in some way saved me and had quite a specific prayer commented on by a complete stranger in my teens. Recently, I've had a few coincidences which I'm wondering about and at the moment am continually finding white feathers. I'm going through a very tough time though so I'm not sure if I'm reading into things.

I've written this before on mumsnet. When dd2 died, I used to drop her siblings off to school then go to her grave and spend some time with her. One particular morning it was raining and the Cemetary looked so dark and lonely. I had to go home for an appointment but it broke my heart leaving her there alone and I left in tears.

Before I set off to collect the children from school I had the sudden urge to go back to see her, so I did. When I got there a small old man in an oversized long brown coat was stood at her little grave praying. I kept back to allow him to finish, it was the loveliest thing to see she wasn't alone.

Anyway he turned to face me and gestured to me as if he was acknowledging that I was her mother. I nodded. He looked at me with such gentle compassion but never said a word. Then he signalled for me to be with her and he set off as if he was going to visit another grave further towards the back of the Cemetary.

When I needed to leave once more to collect the dcs I did so with a warm glow knowing she wasn't alone. I turned to say thank you once more to the old man but he was nowhere to be seen. Now here's the thing. Dd2's Cemetary is long and thin, to leave he would have needed to go past me. Dd has only got a few graves further back than hers. If he was there unwound have been able to see him.

That's a really lovely experience to read in such a sad situation for you.

Thank you for sharing. U'm off to work now so won't be checking in again until tonight.

I have two to share. I'm guessing there are probably more that I just haven't recognised as such!

Yes, I have. I don't know what it was, though.

So my first one which got me interested happened some years ago when my DD was a toddler. She wasn't well. I'd just been into her bedroom to check on her and as I settled down back to sleep, I heard a voice. I couldn't make out if was inside my head or outside. Can't tell you if it was male or female.
The voice said the word we use to represent a siren noise. "Nee-no Nee-no".
I sat up trying to understand what I'd heard, but soon fell back to sleep.
Next day, DD was taken to hospital with an asthma attack, with sirens. I only remembered the warning after everything had calmed down.
I've always wondered since, if it was a guardian angel or a passed loved on.

More recently, while DD was in high school, having a bit of problems with the cool girls, I stood in the kitchen washing dishes, and said a silent prayer , words to the effect of, " please watch over DD today while at school".

When she came home from school she said that she'd experienced something weird. She'd lost some of her lunch money (before the finger print method of paying) and whilst walking in an empty corridor, just her and a friend, she felt something hit her (not hard) between the shoulder blades. When she turned around, nobody was there but her £1.50 was in the floor by her feet.

I was grateful to whoever it was and thought it divine intervention Smile

There's a man called Terry Law who has written a book about Angels that has good reviews. He may have some YouTube talks, not sure but might be worth a search if it interests you.

Thank you Lumpy.

Have you seen the photos on social media last week about a mother who visited her sons grave and a robin came to her? It's lovely!

I was very ill a few years ago (suicidal etc). Mum had been with me but had to go home that night. She remembers the tears hitting the steering wheel and she prayed to my father (dead nearly 20 years) to watch over me. It was around that time i felt his presense very strongly, very comforting and encouraging. He hadnt been in my thoughts at all, and i remember thinking oh yeah, dad, should have thought of asking him for help. So my parents on both sides of the veil still worked together to protect and comfort me, despite being nearly 40!

Why do you think some people receive signs and others don't?

Report
7Days · 19/04/2017 21:26

I don't know Jessica. A lot of people would read my story and think bullshit. All in her head. Neurotransmitters etc. Maybe they are right. But if something like that happened to them they would not treat it as a sign.
I definitely don't think its because some of our dead loved ones don't care as much as others. And I wonder about people in awful awful situations world wide and historically and why aren't they getting messages or comfort. But, my life is my life and on balance, I believe it happened to me.
who knows?

Report
FindingJessica · 19/04/2017 21:47

I believe you because when I was 14 I really prayed hard for God to help me with a really awful situation and 2 days later a stranger said God had heard me. I had said absolutely nothing to the stranger. I was totally gobsmacked and felt like a wave of electricity had passed through me. 7 years later my prayer was answered. I've had a few lucky escapes in life since and many good things flow my way. I've also found a few very unusual objects which are supposedly good luck. I don't know if the difference is being open to signs, guidance and messages?

I don't think we recognise signs, we shrug them off as coincidence or ignore them totally. It's like that 'joke' about a woman drowning in a flood and asks God for help and three boats stop to pull her in but she refusing, answering, God will help me each time. Then she drowns. When she meets God, she asks, why didn't you save me Lord? And he replied that he'd sent her three boats which she turned away! not funny when I write it down but you get my drift

We all want to the concrete evidence and so miss out on the little things, a rainbow, a stranger 's smile, a song on the radio etc.

I think that is the difference.
But there are those who say it's confirmation bias.
I'm still skeptical, despite myself. When it comes down to it either we or the materialists are wrong. Does it matter as long as each person is responding to the world (and, maybe beyond Wink) in a way that's authentic? Its not like half of the populations' lives are moot because it turns out, after death,a) they were wrong or b) they they don't know whether they were wrong or right.
Personally I think the universe is too huge for us humans to be the pinnacle of consciousness. With that in mind, there surely are things we don't understand, and things we don't even know we don't know. * More things in heaven and earth...

There are certainly a lot we don't understand yet. Different planes, different levels of consciousness and the enormity power pf our brain that's untouched.

Ooohh the possibilities!

lots of people dont recognise the signs. Other times they are not ready for them even when they believe they are.

Good points.! I'm quite interested in dreams and numbers too.
I've got to a point in my life where I'm fairly worn out by making things happen in life for decades so I'm taking the next few months 'off' to see what happens when I don't try anything and seeing if I'm guided in any direction.

Report
LilQueenie · 20/04/2017 23:54

on the topic of numbers I constantly see 111 222 444 and less often 333. This increased dramatically in the last 4/5 years.

I saw numbers as clear as day in the clouds one day. I could barely believe my eyes. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of them.
Must try harder! It could have been lotto numbers Grin

That's quite a big claim to make, how have you reached that conclusion?

Report
LilQueenie · 23/04/2017 20:21

its pretty common knowledge in spiritualism.

Report
ollieplimsoles · 23/04/2017 20:52

Ok, but the fact that spiritualist circles believe it, doesn't validate it.

What if someone doesn't accept there are signs at all? Are they wrong because spiritualists say so?
