Can I find comfort in God?

I am feeling sad, lonely and troubled. I feel a strong leaning towards Christianity, Jesus and God but have not found a church yet locally to attend.
Does anyone think that God can help me find peace and heal my troubled mind and soul ?
I feel I constantly try to find help and improve things for myself but still remain on my own.. I always feel alone and have to shoulder everything alone.

The very short answer to this is YES. In God there is light and life and abundant joy for all.
It can be hard though to break through to this, especially when difficult things have happened in your life with which you have not come to terms. There are Christian counsellors who could explore this with you, or maybe you have a Christian friend you could talk to. Also we have a Christian prayer thread on here (Hands together eyes closed) where you would be very welcome.
When you reach out to God, ask Him to come into your life there is His promise that He will come into your life.

Thank you Duchoma for your reply and invitation to the Prayers thread.
I work weekends so haven't made it to the new church I have heard about yet, although I have been able to pop into our local Parish Church and sit and pray a few times.
I feel I am somewhere imbetween the Evangelical style and traditional service so am trying to explore local churches.

I am always looking for something in my life and still feel something is missing. I think this could partly be the Spiritual side of me which is neglected and put to one side.

Will you always have to work weekends? In that case it is going to be hard to find a fellowship to attach yourself to, but maybe you could find a midweek service somewhere.
I wonder if you would find it possible to accept that Jesus has already found you, found you a long time before you started looking for Him and to be grateful for that?
What do you do by way of Bible reading and prayer?

Not every weekend but regular ones.

If I were not Christian would Jesus still have found me I wonder ..does he find everyone but only if you respond are you saved?

You are right I have Jesus as my strength and my faith. Thank you for kind words and prayer.

Would Jesus still have found me if I was not a Christian? Very tricky question as it calls forth a whole host of other questions which no one can answer.
I tend to think of it as people being lost at sea. Jesus comes along with a boat, it is the only way to get saved: either you get into the boat or you drown. Jesus knows that you are much better off in the boat, but He will not force you to get in. If you are a Christian now, you are already in that boat, you are saved already.
As I said lots more questions to ask. The thing is, as a Christian, to come as close to Jesus as you can. Build a personal relationship. Sometimes, most times, church is helpful for that and if you can you should build relationships there too as it will help you in your relationship with Jesus.
Reading the Bible, praying, it all helps. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to do all those things and that is a whole new chapter.

Go out and help others in need, you might find what you are searching for.

Vulcan. I constantly help others. I love that in my job. But it's physically and mentally draining at the same time. It's me I need to replenish .

Have you ever tried counselling or speaking to a psychotherapist? It might be worth considering, as there are approaches that can help.

What about going to one of these Spiritual retreats, you sound like you need a well earned break.

Both great suggestions thanks.

I looked at local retreats they look promising . Although time is very scarce atm and its a bit like when we went on holiday ..it helps when you are there but it's back to square one when you return. But that's a holiday involving lots of planning and packing etc. just me on a two day retreat should be fine.
I love the thought of a Christian retreat and some of them have counsellors etc.
The psychotherapist idea is also good. I want to explore why I seem to have so little patience these days and am always in a rush..what am I afraid of? Also I feel irritable and just exasperated sometimes. I know this is partly work but it also has a background. I feel Ive really changed and I want to change back. I think I would need a skilled clinical psychologist ..I had a counsellor once and he was absolutely hopeless in terms of insight and trying to work out the problem.
