A new Christian prayer thread for 2014

Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

May I re-join?

having 12 week scan tomorrow for baby #7 - I don't know why but I'm worried and I just want it to be over and be told baby is ok.

plus I need a lot of patience and energy to cope with our existing brood, and somehow be better organised.

May God bless you all richly this coming year!

Welcome zing. Praying for a healthy, wriggly baby on that scan.

Happy New Year to all. I'm back to work Monday and naturally apprehensive so prayers that I settle in quickly and Faithlet is ok (she'll be with my family) would be great.

Thank you TUO for the new thread and for the prayers, although a tiny confession, I'm GoodbyeRubyTuesday but this is my Christmas namechange (from the song Run, Run Rudolf, felt apt as I've recently taken up running). I will probably have to change back after Twelfth Night!

Prayers of thanks today as I'm feeling very grateful for the improvement in my health over the past year. I finished six months of chemo last July and was in a pretty bad way healthwise, very anaemic and lots of side effects from the chemo and the surgery I'd had prior to that, but over the second half of the year I've gradually improved and today I finished the Couch to 5K programme so I can now run for 30 minutes. I would not have thought this possible a few months ago Smile

At the moment I'm doing some reading and trying to decide how I can make the most of 2014. I feel like 2013 was almost written off as my only focus was on dealing with my health problems and just coping with the day to day issues, so I feel like the New Year is a really good chance to start working on other areas of my life.

Sorry that was very rambly.

Praying for all as we start a new year, and whatever joys and challenges it may bring.

Thank you for that lovely prayer, Oma. I hope that you're OK. And how is Bob? Is he any more settled?

I can report on a prayer answered. The lovely labyrinth service that I've posted about before was being run up till Christmas on a trial basis and a decision was being made about its future in December. Seems it's going to continue, and on a weekday evening, which I think might also attract more people. So I am very Grin and thankful about that - it's such an oasis of peace for me.

Ruby - I did wonder if you were both Tuesday and RunRun, as it were, but it was late and I wanted to get the new thread up, so I didn't hang around to ask - I went for the 'belt and braces' approach! It sounds as if you're really ready for a new start with the new year this year. Huge congratulations on the running - that's amazing. May 2014 be a year of good health and much happiness for you.

Welcome zing and congratulations. I'm so pleased that the scan went well today. May your pregnancy progress well and may you have the energy you need to cope with your wonderful burgeoning family. (I have just the two DDs but would've had more if DH had let me!)

Praying for Faith and for Charlotte for their returns to work on Monday. Praying that all will go well and that you'll find joy and fulfillment in your work.

Praying for BES and her mum, that her mum gets the treatment that she needs, and that BES feels a little less stressed.

And praying for Blue, for essay inspiration and, God willing, a BAP in 2014.

mum is home. slightly confused. there has been a new development in that he has now got an urgent appointment to the hospital to check for I am guessing cancer or some thing that causes blood where it should not be.

I have come home to a broken fridge and lots of off milk. need the receipt to be found easily. and prayer for excavating the fridge and yes I have buried it again in just 6 months, slattern

moths have eaten my best woollen base layer.

I forgot to take the bin out in the panic --> Envy the flat has a certain whiff.

ds has been sick for over a aweek and I am suspecting nut allergy in addition to the bug he got. .. he also did a pause in his breathing while asleep and it freaked me out and is something I need to get sorted with the gp.

i need to get the car fixed, moted and taxed.

on the plus side we are dry and still have a roof, even if the flat looks like it has been flooded and battered by a tornado...

i will read back in the morning.

Oh BES, that's a lot to cope with. I can't even think what to pray for first. How is dd coping with it all? Praying for her too as well as for everyone else.

I am hoping to have the whole family together here apart from Bob. He is a bit more settled, will say thank you to the nurses who come to help him etc. but he remains very poorly and in a lot of discomfort. I'm glad that Christmas is soon going to be at an end with all the festivities and Bank Holidays.

Praying for all: for Blue's essay and for a good meeting with the DDO, for BES and all she is coping with, for DO and Bob, for Ruby to find a sense of direction for 2014, giving thanks that God has found for Tuo a time of peace, and all the needs of those reading this that are known only to themselves and to God.

May God, who has called us out of darkness into his marvellous light, bless us and fill us with peace.

the flat still looks like the aftermath of a tornado, but there are three carier bags of recycling and a couple of bags of rubbish that have either been taken out or are about to be taaken out so stuff has been done, even if it does not look like it. i suppose in the words of tesco's (other supermarkets are available) everylittle helps.

I have found the ice blocks and am freezing them and putting on the most critical things in the fridge.

mum hass eaten and taken her tablets. she is telling me stuff that the dr said, which is the exact opposite of yesterday's report of what the dr said.

Yes, indeed BES, every little helps and eventually you will have a flat that you can live with, even if it is not as tidy as you would like.

Well, we had quite day here yesterday. We had planned a family day together weeks ago before there was any question of Bob being in the hospice. We were uncertain as to whether to go ahead: dgd was asking to come home early because she had a temperature, but when on Friday she had two boiled eggs, two croissants and a big mug of hot chocolate we decided to go ahead. But: at 9 am one of the nurses at the hospice rang to say Bob had been a bit unsettled in the night and was asking for me to come and bring his bedsocks. So I was there at 10.45 and he was asleep but looking quite uncomfortable. It took a while for the staff to settle him, it was the nurse who had rung me who got him settled. We know her from the carers' support group and the day hospice, so she knows Bob from when he was a lovely man to deal with and not grumpy as he is now. Anyway I asked her if we could see the chaplain as he had told me to do: "any time, day or night, I will come" and he did. I can't tell you what a relief it was to see him and to pray and talk with him, but I was very exhausted and hungry too. Dd and older dgc and had been and gone after seeing Bob briefly, ds with ddil and dgd2 came and I went home with them, leaving ds with his dad for a bit. He walked home (he has very long legs) and we had tea as planned. The children were so good, very pleased with their belated Christmas presents (they had hotties and hottie covers and were chuffed to bits with them) and they had all left by 7.30, leaving me with a tidy house and totally exhausted. I slept till 2.30, then not again till 5.00 and woke up again at 6.40, so still very tired, but not feeling as if I am running totally on empty.
Thank you all for your prayers and for being here for me.
