I have changed my name as i am a regular poster and dont want any of you lot thinking i am strange!

I recently had a weird experience whilst i was lying on the settee resting.I felt myself come out of my body and crawl on my hand's and knees across the lounge to where dd1 was asleep on the other sofa.

I know how this must sound daft and troll like but i am deadly serious.
I can remember feeling aware of everything around me e.g -telly was on.
I remember thinking to myself -"dont be scared, it has happened before ,just go out further this time!"
I then went back and can recall thinking -"i did it" and drawing breath heavily.
No i wasn't drunk Smile
I dont do recreational drug's ,just anti-d's.
I know im not ready to be carted off to the assylum just yet!
Wtf was it and why?
Long shot but any other experience's or similar?
Please dont ridicule me.Sad

Astral Projection is what this is called. I'm told people spend years trying to be able to do it.

I'm not laughing, by the way.

Mumphy - had this before regularly in my late teens/early twenties. Could never get my head lifted off the floor though! Just dragged myself along and feeling paralysed from the shoulders up. It was scary! I remember lying in bed and the next thing I was lying on the floor next to the sofa trying to stand up. My little brother (about 6 at the time) was alseep on the sofa and my Mum was upstairs. I could see a mans pair of feet standing like he looking at db. I was so frightened, but no matter what I tried I couldn't lift me head off the floor. I was shouting but noone could hear me. Next thing I sat up in my bed sweating and ran to the living room. There is db lying asleep, mum upstairs and the time elapsed from me going to be was about 15minutes. NO WAY had I falen asleep and had a nightmare in that space of time. Its happened to me a few times.... always frightening at the time, but fascinating afterwards. And I'm always angry that I haven't managed to stand up and look at myself sleeping in the bed.

Why would something like this just happen though?

Mumphy - NO idea! It started with me when I was about 18 and stopped when I was 23. I'm 28 now and hasn't happened since. Although I can still feel like its going to happen, coz I get dizzy feelings when I'm drifting off to sleep. When I feel like that I resist it and force myself to wake up. It just scares me!!!

I am 30 by the way.
Glad to know i am not alone!
I wonder if it is linked to my depression ?as i am so 'deep' most of the time.

Mumphy - happy to discuss with you.

Email me antlxstew at yahoo dot co dot uk

Would like to know who you are though so if you don't mind telling me in the email, I won't let on to anyone else.

And I will not ridicule you - I astral project on a regular basis.

I read a great book a while ago written by a psychologist who started astral projecting spontaneously and ended up controlling it and exploring different dimensions (!) as well as just cruising round the room or house he was in! He had studies done on him as well when he would deliberately project. He didn't call it astral projecting though.. I can't remember his name so am struggling to Google for the book. It's quite old.. written in the 80s I think.. will keep trying.

It also tell you step by step how to do it at the back of the book.. and I was scared to read that part in case I did it accidentally when not alseep. Grin We all do it in our sleep apparently.. I'm sure I do.. the feeling of 'flying' is very familiar to me.

Got your mail.

Not got much time tonight so will probably reply tomorrow.

J&A - the sensation of flying is often associated with uncontrolled astral projecting.

Have you ever felt as if you have suddenly fallen from a height and found yourself waking with a start? This is sometimes thought to be when the astral body is reentering the physical in a an uncontrolled manner.
